Tablet of Oppresor (spoilers)
Hey, guys. I've been doing my first replay in forever of Silent Hill 2, and I've hit Toluca Prison. While picking up the Tablet of the Oppressor, the symbolism in the whole cell struck me. So I present to you some analysis I've done of the Tablet and the cell. First off, here are links to screen cap...

Re: Coins in the BlueCreek Apts...[SPOILERS]
Well, to add to the random shot in the dark, we do have a vague correlation to the Old Man potentially relating to Angela's father. In our beginning introduction to Angela, we find her in a graveyard. And what's on the back of the Old Man's coin? A gravestone. Additionally, Angela seems to be the on...

Re: Coins in the BlueCreek Apts...[SPOILERS]
>If James is the Opressor, Mary is obviously the Prisoner, which depicts a woman and is affiliated with eggs and everything. That one's fucking obvious, imo. THIS Thanks, Aura, you got what I was trying to say. I was rather stoked that that whole line of reasoning came together. So in that case, can...

Re: Coins in the BlueCreek Apts...[SPOILERS]
I'd only have to edit my theory a little, and it would still connect to James- the woman in the coin is referencing Mary, who is the oppressed prisoner, related to the Oppressor tablet.

Re: Coins in the BlueCreek Apts...[SPOILERS]
No, but he has a really good point. Many of the fans are like "wtf" in the final boss fight when the Pyramid Heads have eggs, because for all intents and purposes, it almost seems like a random inclusion. Generally, the themes in SH2 aren't divorced from each other, and you can generally f...

Well, maybe it's a crossover. It'll burn away her sin of patricide, and then maybe she'll be forgiven (by who, even she doesn't know). It's obvious she craves acceptance and forgiveness, but from whom (the father who abused her and the family that wouldn't stop it?) and for what (defending herself, ...

>..you've completely missed what the both of us are talking about. No, I'm just trying to pare it down. There's no right or wrong answer to this, and if I don't agree with your standpoint doesn't mean I somehow missed it. We three differ on how we appreciate the games. I'm just arguing whether or no...

I think by now we're getting into personal preference based on story telling techniques: to you, and AITT, a story must have a tangible change, usually for the good, in order for there to be considered meaningful. For me, the meaning was inherent in the story, but was only clear until after the play...

>A storyline that serves no purpose is bad writing. Silent Hill 2 is not bad writing. Therefore there must be a point to James' journey. Oh, there certainly is a point. But it's not necessarily to better James' life, or to make him find an alternative to suicide. I'm not saying his journey is pointl...

I've got something of a devil's advocate article to add to this: what if the flames weren't symbolizing hell, but flames that were there to cleanse Angela of sin and purify her soul to allow her to ascend to her version of heaven/acceptance? She is leaving behind the parts of her life that hurt her ...

AITT, honestly, I think one of the biggest flaws of your argument is that you think that there somehow needs to be a point to all of James' struggle. As if there's some tangible outcome that needs to be reached, or otherwise it's a waste. I would agree with you if we were looking at other Silent Hil...

What's in a name
I'm going to discuss some of the findings I had on the names in this game- mostly the 4 families, but if anyone has something to contribute, please feel free. SPOILERS Bartlett: a cross between Old French and Middle English name. It's a mitigation of "Bart", with the diminutive "el&qu...

I find it unlikely that the designers hung her upside down while having any kind of symbolic view in mind. Oh boy, you seem to have forgotten what game this is. Hold on- A note of clarification: I didn't mean to say that they hung her upside down without any symbolism in mind. What I meant t...

Just to add some (more) controversy to this argument, Mary's pose is very reminiscent of the tarot card the Hanged Man: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hanged_Man_%28tarot_card%29 Well, minus the one-leg-behind thing. Also read what it means. I find it unlikely that the designers hung her upside do...
