Re: Silent Hill Downpour Appreciation Thread

Well... I've played Fatal Frame 3 and when you control the characters with the D-pad, they move with the tank controls while you use the stick, the character moves on a 2D scheme (just like SH Origins) Controlling the characters using the d-pad is nothing at all similar to how Travis moves in Origi...

Re: Silent Hill Downpour Appreciation Thread

Now you're falling back on ad hominem? *sigh* Okay, apparently I am going to have to dig up some videos to flat out demonstrate the differences since (for God knows what reason) you can't seem to get the picture yourself. And so far you're the only person I have ever come across to claim the control...

Re: Silent Hill Downpour Appreciation Thread

I'm literally playing it now. Right now, I have the controller in my hand, if I push the stick to the left she turns in a circle to the left, and keeps on turning until I press forward or square. if I push right, she turns in a circle to the right and she'll keep turning forever until I press forwa...

Re: Silent Hill Downpour Appreciation Thread

No, Fatal Frame's controls are certainly not tank controls. With 2D controls basically whatever direction you push on the analog stick makes the character go in that direction. You push left they go towards the left and so on. Fatal Frame's controls definitely do this only the amount of time to perf...

Re: Silent Hill Downpour Appreciation Thread

I really don't care if tank controls are used or not, but you can horror and suspense without the need of tank controls. Case in point: Fatal Frame Fatal Frame uses tank controls. No, they don't. When we say tank controls we mean stuff like Resident Evil in which moving up on the analog stick or d-...

Re: Silent Hill Downpour Appreciation Thread

Eh, I really don't care about that. Silent Hill 4 only had fog in a few select areas of the game. Just the area near Toluca Lake and the Water Prison. Didn't ruin anything for me. Maybe not for you, but I think the lack of fog and darkness effected the experience of alot of people which probably co...

Re: Silent Hill Downpour Appreciation Thread

I sense an irony in the fact that the new devs consider Silent Hill to be such a hard game to make, when they would probably have more success at this point just making it like the old games. Everybody's like, 'well we need to improve combat/graphics, blah bla' but at the end of the day those old g...

Re: The NEW pyramid head

PH himself is a result of mixing several horror conventions and aside from his helmet nothing about him is unique. I understand people like him but way, way too many people elevate him to this untouchable pedestal as if the majority of everything we've seen from him has nothing been done before.

Re: The NEW pyramid head

Yeah, blades are universally regarded as threatening weapons. I guess it's just a part of psychology. Stabbing, piercing weapons just tend to get more of a response out of people. But for all we know Hammer Guy may change weapons during the course of the game like PH. And since he throws Murphy arou...

Re: The NEW pyramid head

Too much emphasis is placed on 'originality'. Lots of original things are very bad. Pyramid Head works not because he's original (he's just another silent Implacable Man), but because his character is one of the better examples of the silent Implacable Man. Pretty much this. I'm fine with the way h...

Re: The NEW pyramid head

^...aside from his movements, his symbolism, his behavior towards other monsters, his attire, the sounds he makes, and the white gloves with connected fingers, you're right; he's not that original! :) Don't you think you're dolling him up a little too much? His attire? His attire was an apron and a...

Re: The NEW pyramid head

How is the hammer guy "just not Silent Hill"? Is there some unwritten little list of requirements that I'm not aware that a monsters need to have this, this, this, and this in order to be considered "a Silent Hill monster"? True, his design is rather generic, but I don't see how ...

Re: Confusion about the god (spoilers)

Settled? It settles nothing. It only raises further questions when you think of SH3's scenario regarding constantly referring to that same girl as Alessa.

All I'm seeing is somebody wanting Homecoming not to be canon simply because they didn't like it.

Re: Confusion about the god (spoilers)

The lady in white being God theory has never been outright proven. It's only speculation because some people feel it "makes the most sense" when in reality both theories have bits that don't make sense. Given the scene in question and all the dialogue pertaining to those events in SH3 it's...

Re: Trophies/Achievements for Downpour

I never understood how people felt they added replay value. The trophy/achievement system is just a virtual checklist for things you could already have done in the game. For example, say you kill five guys with one grenade in a certain video game and get an achievement. Now take the achievement syst...

Anyway, is Silent Hill: Origins worth getting? I heard that it was recently added to the PSN game store and I was considering whether to buy it or not. I realise I'm late to this thread but just a heads-up on the PSN version - the game is glitched so that cut scenes don't play properly and finish e...

Re: Is This Game Killing Silent Hill?

Seriously Shacknasty, it's a little ridiculous how you seem to find any excuse you can to attack Aura. It's immature as hell, and really, not needed... Thing that kills me is how people keep saying "grow up!" and "immature", but they don't have enough to ignore these comments an...
