That line was Vincent joking around, I think, even if it fell flat. I agree. Problem I have with it is that, as far as we know, Vincent wouldn't have been exposed to that trope. Regarding DJ Ricks, is it possible he doesn't understand any existing rules, but is simply paranoid? His belief that he and Murphy need to speak quietly doesn't seem like it would fit in a supernatural environment, at least not to me.
