Hello all,

I signed up a few months ago, but I couldn't bring myself to post. I have just been occasionally lurking instead.

A little background:

I'm currently majoring in Philosophy and Linguistics and minoring in Psychology. I hope to pursue a PhD in Philosophy after I complete my undergraduate studies. My academic interests include logic, philosophy of science, metaphysics, cognitive biases, moral decision making, how language affects decision making, etc.

I got into gaming because of my older brother, who is nine years my senior. I started by watching him play Resident Evil, then Silent Hill. I believe the first Silent Hill game I played was 3, then 2, and then 1 followed by Shattered Memories. I found myself instantly hooked by the mystery and strangeness of the environments, the focus on subtle, prolonged horror, and the character development.

Favourite Movies: Being John Malkovich, The Dark Knight, Batman Begins, Following, Inglourious Basterds, Pulp Fiction, Eastern Promises, Inception, Waking Life, the Nightmare on Elm Street films, Hellraiser, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, 28 Days Later, Saw, Donnie Darko, Insidious, etc.

Favorite TV shows: Misfits, Fringe, Alphas, Dexter, Game of Thrones. Battlestar Galactica.

Favourite Artist/Group: Zedd, Mustard Pimp, Bach, Beethoven, Slipknot, Queens of the Stone Age, Metallica, Skrillex, Cacophony, Mozart, Handel, Liszt, Paganini, Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, The Mars Volta, Akira Yamaoka.

Books/Literature: Stephen King's short story books: Everything's Eventual, Nightmares and Dreamscapes, etc. Clive Barker's Books of Blood, Mathematical Logic, Language, Proof and Logic, Practical Ethics, A Plurality of Worlds, etc.

Favourite Silent Hill Game: Silent Hill 2 followed by Shattered Memories.

Favorite video games: Mass Effect 2, Dead Space 2 (love multiplayer), Final Fantasy series, Dark Souls.

That's about it for now. If interested, feel free to PM me questions, or contact me on skype at abdul.abad. I love to have discussions about most topics in philosophy, but discussions extend into topics such as film, television, writing, playing music (I've played classical guitar for years as well as alto saxophone, clarinet, etc).

I'm glad to join a community such as this, and I hope to contribute something useful to some of the discussions.

Cheers....

Fun fact: Surfing With The Alien was one of the first music cassettes I owned when I was a kid. Stole it from my dad. 8)

Whoa, nice background. You and I have lots in common, also your choices for majors and minors are very interesting! I love all three. I took my first Linguistics course last semester (I'm an English major), and absolutely loved it!

Oh, and I can play Alto Saxophone, too (As well as Flute and Piano ;))!

I hope you enjoy your stay with us.

Thanks for the kind welcomes, everyone.

Agent of God, thanks!
Juridawn, cassette tapes? Very cool. I haven't heard about cassette tapes in forever.
Aerith, I'm glad to see we have similar interests. I have taken plenty of literature courses because I thought I would be an English/Philosophy major but ended up falling in love formalizing natural languages, so I was led to a Philosophy/Linguistics split. In any case, I appreciate the nice comment on my background. Thanks!

That's a lot to take in.
Seems decent enough.
But I'm a fan of The Prodigy so I think Skrillex sucks but I like Beethoven though but Akira is better.

Your education sound interesting as well.
