I am so happy to see more than 1 or 2 new emails from this forum a week in my inbox! I am probably going to revive some myself soon, because my kiddo has thoughts and theories about some of the games, and since he is too young to join, I will add his thoughts in for him. I think people will be amused with his thoughts on Heather lol.

This could be an interesting thread topic....or does it already exist?

Isn't that thread still on the front page of the Silent Hill 3 section? I will use a spoiler tag even though I am not sure if it is a spoiler. He was actually quite surprised to learn that
[Reveal] Spoiler:
James Sunderland isn't Heather's father.

He insists that there must be a connection between them somehow lol.

SO!!! Sooooooo... I used to be a member of this site back in the day when it used to be an ezBOARD. How times do change. Silent Hill, eh? Well I played PT and it reminded me why Silent Hill reigned king in the horror world. I used to be the fellow that made loads of weird little films and post them for your AMUSEMENT!!! Such a long time ago. I'm 28, now. I think I was in my teens when I used to visit here.

Hope any old timers that still frequent are all well and good. Just thought it'd be interesting to reignite some history for myself.

SO, BYE FOR NOW!!!

I can't really say this is me "coming back" per se, but I stumbled on this evening and figured I'd send everyone a quick hello! I hope everyone has been well.

Well, if you're not back, I guess I won't say welcome back. But hi? :)

Hey guys, anyone remember me? It's been forever! I'd love to give a whole, big, needlessly long life update, but the long-and-short is:

> Finished my B.S. in Software Engineering with a minor in Chinese
> Pursuing an M.S. in Computer Engineering with a specialization in Secure and Reliable Computing. Defending my thesis and attempting to graduate this fall!
> Entered into and broke up an engagement.
> Got into bellydance and hip-hop and can't stop won't stop moving.
> Really upset I got a PS4 after P.T. was long off the store DX
> Maybe hopefully getting a kitten from my friend this Fall!

I put the forums on a daily link list, so I swear, I actually will be on. For real.

Great to be back!

Yes, I remember you! Welcome back. :) Don't I have you on PSN?

Sounds like you've been pretty busy.

Welcome back, Enika. I always see you online on PSN and was wondering why you never came back.

I'm learning chinese, too. I know how to write and read (in our alphabet) and speak some words but can't, for the life of me, write and read those damn symbols. I guess the same could be said about all the languages with different alphabets... Russian, japanese, arabian... Ugh.

Hey! Yeah, I missed SHH but I hadn't come back to the forums for a while... SHH was always in the back of my mind and I missed a lot of the people here, but the URL never quite made it into my address bar. I think I was too overwhelmed with finishing my B.S.

It's great that you're learning Chinese, though! The symbols are definitely the hardest part of Chinese, and the only way I can think of to really learn them is to write them over and over and over again while saying the tone and pronunciation. It can also help to find some mnemonic to help with remembering what they mean or how to say them. I have some pretty awful mnemonics for some of the characters, but if it works, it works. Since vocabulary is learned gradually, I'd also say only focus on the characters for the word you know.

My last piece of advice for learning characters would be to focus on only traditional or simplified for writing. Some of the characters are the same between both, but some of the characters are very, very different. Simplified is more mainland China and Traditional is more Taiwan, so depending on which area you like more, just focus on one. Of course, Simplified is way easier, so if you don't have a preference, do that one.

Best of luck with Chinese! If you ever want to practice with me, I'd be happy to send PMs back and forth or something :)

I took Chinese for a couple years in high school. Everyone asked "Why don't you take Spanish like everyone else?" Because Chinese interested me way more! I hardly remember anything now, but it was an awesome class. Thankfully, we learned simplified characters, which are obviously a little easier than traditional. To help me remember them- especially how to write them, not just recognize them- was to write and rewrite them across a bunch of lines in a notebook. It's daunting at first, but once you start getting the hang of it, they flow smoothly!

I remember you, Enika! I am considering dropping ballet for hip hop next year, so maybe we can become the forum's hip hop experts. :D
