So I was thinking to ask for your opinion on this. Imagine you would go to the cinema and see a Silent Hill inspired movie.

What elements would it need to have for it to be a subtle/decent/respectful nod to the SH series and not a blatant/bleak ripoff?

To be clear, it wouldn't be a Silent Hill themed film or a remake or a fan film. Just a regular thriller made as a tribute to the games it got its inspiration from.

The reason I am asking is based on the fact that SH itself was inspired by the works of others (Lovecraft etc.) - so in reality, would one have to go towards the source to make sure the film reflect the "Silent Hill tone/mood" or just get inspired from the games themselves?

Let's discuss! :)

Well, I would love to see a film partially inspired by The Room, since I just love the idea of someone being trapped in a room. And it wouldn't count as a ripoff since there are already other stories and movies with the same premise (such as 1408).

Even so, if I was a big filmmaker I would've just tried to get the movie rights for The Room and make it myself. Or perhaps it would be better suited as a TV show.

A movie with war elements, those never dissapoint, i swear war makes the best movies.

If a silent hill movie used what Homecoming should have used (war ptsd) it would have been amazing.

Imagine if alex killed a lot of sand negroes back in afghanistan, including women and children, heck he might even liked it, imagine having a bad main character, something new, someone really despicable, not like James though, more like a Travis type of guy, if he was created with the intent of him killing innocents and being good, it would have been more of the same like Murphy, SH needs a bad main character, pulling that story arc might be tricky though since thereĀ“s no redemption, anyway getting pulled to silent hill, some cool monsters design could arise from that im sure... including kids fucked up with bayonets, cool stuff. Unbelievable this hasnt been used yet.
