Silent Hill is amazing, it's deeper and has more meaning then most games. If its taught me anything, its that you cant run from your fears and the sins you've committed. You have to face it head on and conquer it.

This should probably be in the General section.

What have I learned from the series....? That not everything is always as it seems. And that in order to figure things out sometimes things need further investigation and thinking :)

I learned that I'm a scaredy cat, how to conquer those (horror?) fears, and now I like lots more of the horror genre than I ever did before.

Also taught me an appreciation for the artistic choices that Yamaoka and Ito used in creating the earlier games. Rather different from the things I found myself normally enjoying, but they both worked their magic and won me over to their side.

Most importantly, it taught me that checking gems in certain locations may yield interstellar results.

Wait a minute. That's not very nice, you bully!

I learned that if you hear something in the woods, it might not necessarily be your imagination. (Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you...)

EDIT: I apologize for this post being more or less spam.

Moving. Aura was right. Unless this is to Silent Hill 1 specifically, it belongs in the General Discussion.

-Never talk to little children.
-Never use guns, no matter how terrifying the situation you currently belong is; there will always be a better reason to spend that ammo.

Running away is a very effective combat tactic.
Pick up anything - you never know when it'll come in handy.
When your mobile/radio/mp3 player starts emitting static, RUN QUICKER.
Don't do something that, in the words of Yahtzee, will earn you "the Silent Hill equivalent of a season ticket."

To be fair, for these people the alternatives tend to be bronze age religious tomes or cranky old people in their lives, and since most people in this position are rebellious or discontent modern youths...

EDIT: Before this gets closed. . .

I don't know what the series have taught me. Maybe nothing. Hard to think about it.

Thank you for spamming. If this continues to be a spamming train, I'll have to lock it down. Which would be a shame because it had potential.

^does it have to be really deep, or can it be simple things like "always save the burning little girl, even if bad shit starts happening?"
Because I don't think any of us can top the first post in this thread. (Congrats)
It was very well put, and summed up the series rather completely. (thus far)

The only thing I can add would be-
Always be true to yourself, because pushing issues down causes them to resurface in bad ways, but that's sort of the same thing just worded differently.

Pay attention to yourself and also to your surroundings. Don't be scared to let your surroundings reflect what's inside you. ...or something like that.

The exact same tactic will work against the same kind of monster every time, it will even take the same number of bullets.
Unlike most situations, anything representing anything sexual is something you need to run AWAY from.

I don't want to give full credit to silent hill, because my experience with REmake in earlier days also helped, but the silent hill series also made me more willing to give other games a chance.

I had always avoided silent hill games because I thought they were some kind of resident evil ripoff (which, the first one was trying to ride resident evil's waves somewhat), but when I finally gave them a chance I found them to be far more rewarding than I ever would have guessed. How many other games had I missed out on because of my disposition toward them?

This has lead me to play games like clock tower 3, Deadly Premonition(<3), Alan Wake, Fatal Frame, and so more. Silent Hill really helped broaded my horizons in terms of gaming, and I'm really glad. I love drawing inspiration from all kinds of places, so the more the merrier.
