I couldn't find anything similar, but I'm sorry if this has been discussed before.

So I'm an enormous fan of Shattered Memories. Love it to pieces. It's not just my favourite game in the series, it's my favourite game- fullstop.

I played Shattered Memories because of my love of the Silent Hill series, obviously - and for years up until that point, I REALLY loved the Silent Hill series. But since playing it (over 50 bloody times- I've spent more time in SM than any other game, including 70hr RPG fare), I feel my love and affection has shifted from the series as a whole, to Shattered Memories in particular. I don't think I can call myself a Silent Hill fan anymore.

Is this the case with anyone else? Did you go into an installment as a fan of the series, and come out as more of a fan of that specific game?

I think you can still call yourself a SH fan. As far as I know there are no set rules everyone must tick in order to qualify as fans. :?

Also, it's possible to still like a series, even if you like one game the most. I know with myself, there are games from different series that I love, and other games from the same series I'm indifferent to.

In my case, the number of Silent Hill games I really like has significantly contracted. Sure, the others are fine, but the first two are the best... and, honestly, I prefer the first one, by far.

I can't relate, but I don't think there's anything necessarily wrong with it. People's tastes evolve and change as they experience new things. It's normal to compare what came before to your new favorite. You're probably overthinking it.

Generally, though, you should judge each game on it's own merits as an experience more than how it compares to other experiences. I love Shattered Memories as well, but for completely different reasons than I love Silent Hill 2 or 3, or even Downpour.

I find that the more I played Shattered Memories, the more I hate it. I don't understand why other people like it, but there's room for different opinions. Personally, my love for the first four games has remain unchanged, and I find that when I go back and play them I still enjoy them. Even SH4.

^So far I'm torn between 4 and 1 as being my favourite. I'm still yet to play SM though.

Nope, I've definitely remained a fan of the overall series, although SH1 and SH2 beat everything by pretty far IMO. They're my favorite video games, period.

I go back and forth between 1 and 2 being my favorite. But 3 is also excellent and way up there. If I were pressed I'd have to say 1 is my favorite overall.

This hasn't happened to me, although like other people have stated, I enjoy playing through some of the games more than others.
I think I've beaten SH 1 ten different times on my PS3 :D

What is SH3 but a combination of SH1 and 2?

"But you can't say that, the plot is different!" Right, and Gundam SEED isn't just a redressing of the 1979 series.

And we've kinda been stuck there, ever since. Not even Shattered Memories can get past that.

Well, in my case, I really don't think any other SH game has been as great in literally all the departments as SH2, but I generally like them all (except for Origins and Homecoming), if that helps you.

SH2 was my favorite. 1 and 3 were good too, as was Origins. Didn't care for 4 or Shattered Memories. Haven't played any of the others.

I'm the traditional SH2 worshipper archetype, yes, but I can also say SM is on the top of the list, too. I'm of the opinion that each title can be appreciated as a unique experience, and that the outcome adds up to personal opinion. Because of that it's also hard to compare them, as I said, you can examine each game as its own universe.

Therefore, I enjoy each Silent Hill title for its own qualities, with Homecoming as an exception- it's the one I have most difficulties accepting. Although, I must admit that lately I've been reevaluating Origins and SH3, too.

I like the original 4 the most, but having ditched the bad "it has to tie in with Alessa and company to be a good Silent Hill game" attitude, I find myself enjoying the later Silent Hill games all the more.

While there are certainly games I enjoy more than others, I've always been a fan of the series as a whole. Even if I downright dislike a game the first time I play it, I'll usually give it another chance somewhere down the road, just because it is a Silent Hill game. Each time, I end up finding something I hadn't noticed before, and the game grows on me.

Understandable. I don't play SH2 as much as I used to because it's just so boring and I've long since gotten over the story.

I guess that can work. Like some people only like, say, the fixed perspective Resident Evils.
