It looks like we’re finally getting the Silent Hill game no one asked for. Konami recently renewed the Silent Hill trademark with an intent to have more SH themed gambling machines at casinos. If this isn’t a sign Silent Hill is more dead than the anything, I don’t know what is.

Will the machines spurt of fake fog to enhance the experience?

It just shows how out of touch the execs are at Konami.

I’ve heard rumors Konami is going to revive IPs for consoles. Supposedly, they’re making a new Castlevania game. Who knows. I highly doubt it though.

Let's face it. These franchises thrived on the PlayStation to whatever fan lore liked this niche market. Since action was clearly more appealing and the company was on the verge of going bankrupt, that's why Capcom went with that direction, and it turned out to be highly profitable for them. They've totally sold out the franchise by making it a Call of Duty game disguised as a part of the RE universe. Now with 7 being a best-seller as well, we'll probably get 3 to 4 more sequels in the style of that with the whole RE Engine gag they got for them too. This is why nobody has faith for the RE2 remake. It'll be so bad.

Silent Hill died because Silent Hill was always true horror, but they just couldn't keep up with the trends. Team Silent made that series. I'm sure they didn't want to leave it alone. Konami though probably felt threatened with the direction Capcom went in, and couldn't keep up. Since Konami ain't Capcom, they fired them and got US marketers to screw up the series. So, no. I hate Konami for that. If the series was gonna end, it should have ended with 4: The Room. What we've had since is mostly semi-decent pale imitations that just tries to copy stuff from Silent Hill 2 especially. It's not the same. And I've yet to complete Downpour. I've been trying to give it a chance, but the whole game is just boring.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I just don't seem to get immersed the same way in the SH games that came post-Room. Like in Origins, for example, I could really feel I was playing a video game. The same goes for Homecoming and SHSM, there's no real lore or underlying horror. The horror is just thrown right in your face and it's not scary or immersive. The stories are boring and offers nothing unique in terms of experience. Whenever I play Silent Hill 1, 2, 3 or 4, I always feel like I'm in inside another reality - especially 2 and 4. The worldbuilding is just so much more well-done and that's part of the reason why its so immersive.

I was actually really close to finishing Downpour, but I got bored and everything was so dark and confusing. I decided to watch the rest online, and man was it a very brief and not too rewarding ending? I think that wheelchair monster was the worst of all Silent Hill bosses.

The new Caslevania is a mobile multiplayer game. lol

I'm looking forward to the inevitable Silent Hill farming simulator for mobile where the most valuable crops can only be purchased with Flauros Coins that are purchased with real-world money.

Reading about the Castlevania mobile game gave me hope for a new Silent Hill. I'm not a fan of mobile games at all, but if it keeps the name alive, and as long as it's not some RPG garbage based on things from the titular town, then I think it could yield some potential.

They could still port the games to consoles as well if they wanted to.
