those annoying sirens

Post by SilentMadness »

I always got annoyed when they put the siren on. If you notice, the length of it was never the same either. like for example, in the bathroom, there would be times where it was really short and the next would be very long pitch. The longest was at the churchyard where the minute rose looks up to the horn, to the comparison of the drawing to the actual horn, and finally dies back down.
If this makes sense, then good because that is the best I can do to describe what I mean. Did the sirens annoy you?
If it sounded more distant then I wouldn't have a problem with it.

I never really noticed actually, I'll have to watch it again. The different lengths and pitches, I mean. I liked the actual siren itself..

Why would they annoy me? We don't even know how the sound is triggered in the first place, we only know that it alerts that the world is shifting to the otherworld. With such little concrete information we can't criticize the movie for the way it used the sound. For me it reminded me a lot of the games so I was delighted upon the noise of the siren.

But I did note that it was prolonged during the churchyard scene.

I actually enjoyed the fact that it was loud and permeating, as the Surround sound system in the theater gave another dimension to the unnerving factor of the film.

Really set my hear thumping the first time the sirens kicked on.

I've always loved the sirens. Hearing them go off always makes me feel uneasy and living in Tornado Alley doesn't help either.

Nope, I loved them. They made me feel like "ok, here we go  ". And yeah, they were in the game as well, so no problem there.

That siren, in reality, is used to to alert people about emergencies, like a tornado or a hurricane, or to summon firefighters/paramedics when needed. In my town, they go off for every fire, rescue, and mutual aid call, plus every day at noon. And the length and number of times the siren is rung is different, varying on the reason it's being used, so that people actually know why the siren is going off. It's systematic.

So, the sirens are something to be feared, even before you consider what they mean in the movie, and even more so in the games.

Also, I've never seen a town that actually has that siren on top of a church. Where I grew up, each fire station has one. You think it's annoying hearing one in a movie? Try standing three feet away from one while it's going off. :?

Yeah, they go off in my town too. My and my brother love it though! We're always like, "oh my god, the darkness is coming! We have to get to a sanctuary!"

Not at all.
The sirens in my opinion is what makes the movie give you that chill at the back of your neck, lets face it, sirens is Silent hill, it's the staple of the game

I'm starting to regret ever making this post. Am I really the only one that is just a tad bit annoyed with them?
Now, i'm not saying that I disliked that them or wished they never had it because io know it is eccsential to the storyline, but I just wish it was more distant that it didn't have a source just like when the siren rang out in silent hill 2 after the PH fight (#1). You didn't know where it was coming from and it was more distant sounding.
In the movie they always sound like they were right there in the room she was in be it bathroom or the alleyway.

It is a "heavy", loud sound (best way I can describe it). Maybe there were speakers in the room that she was in?? :?

I find the sirens somewhat unnerving. After living in Oklahoma  all my life; every time I hear a siren I think, "well great! There going to have to rebuild Taco Bell again!" :x

lol, i didn't really notice the sirens at first, krista said that the sirens go off whenever it switches realities or something, and i was like "what sirens?" lol.. i didn't notice them the first time they went off, when i first watched it. idk, maybe it was because i was paying more attention to what was going on, maybe... or maybe it was my computer. but i heard them the next time i watched it.
i thought they made the game more suspenseful in a unique way. they go off, and you know what's comming, but everything goes dark and monsters come out.

Meh, I like the sirens as an element, but I see what Silentmadness is saying about the fact that they could have sounded more distant than they did.

The sirens are a must in the movie.

However....I'm inclined to agree with Silentmadness is saying about how close they seem in proximity. I think the first time they went off it should have been loud as it was. This is our first introduction to the darkness, and to the otherworld. Make it a big bang loud abrassive and unnerving. However on the subsquent siren soundings, it should have been more subdued, almost like you feel it slowly creeping up on you. But I love the noise... I hear those around where I live and I get scared, its ingrained into my brain.

I like the sirens, they still insert fear whenever I hear them wailing and warning of the upcomming darkness
She said her blood turns to ash
Burning eyes can't forgive you
Howling moon drives on
And deep in me
Your illusion
What you see in me

I don't think it's annoying. It creates a more creepy atmosphere.

In the Netherlands the sirens will go off on the first monday of the month. It's just to make sure it all works when a war or a large disaster is going on. I like the sound somehow...

I thought the sirens were freaking awesome. It always made me feel like 'Oh crap, something totally whacked out is about to happen!' (then something totally whacked out would happen lol). I've actually been searching the internet (and not having much luck) for the movie version of the sirens to put as the text message alert tone on my phone.

The sirens were awesome, and to me completely necessary. They let the audience know when to shit their pants!

Last time I watched it though I had to block my ears. We had the volume up pretty loud to hear all dialogue and then when the sirens started it was like "Ouuuuuch!"
I'm going to kill you. And all the cake is gone.
