Why couldn't Silent Hill have been James' and Mary's special place? According to the newspaper articles, only the insides of a few of the buildings are dangerous and there have been thousands of kids who have snuck into that town on dares and only a few who have disappeared/died. Maybe James and Mary snuck into the town a lot as kids to escape their parents? I know it means the hotel isn't their special place, but it's an idea.

That would actually be pretty cool. The two could be childhood sweethearts that held hands all the way through high school. We could even change the way she "died"/died, if we felt it appropriate, to some similar extent. Like having her disease caused by the fumes.

Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams
For a couple of reasons: 1 - the first movie - although successful, was panned by critics and actually more than a few moviegoers. I happen to like it, but that's beside the point. The fact is that if a new movie gets made, it would be best to start 'anew', and in all likelihood, the studio is probably already leaning in that direction. The star of Silent Hill isn't the characters, it's the town, and no game in the series is more of a 'one-off' than the second one.
The second reason? It probably has the most artistic credibility of any game in the series. If you want to show that video game films can be philosophical, insightful, abstract, horrifying and beautiful all at the same time, then what better way to illustrate that than to make a relatively faithful adaptation of a game that is all of those things?
It's probably a pipe dream, but my perfect scenario would be a straight adaptation of the second game (with whatever adjustments needed to be made with regard to pace) as a sort of art film masquerading as a horror film. A horror flick done in the more visual, abstract style of, say, Blade Runner or Alien.

Where is James going to find a working video player, is Alessa going from nowhere and pull a revelation from her ass? Jesting aside, that could work, I wouldn't want a continuation of the first film, but that seems most likely.AuraTwilight wrote:That would actually be pretty cool. Similar to the games, perhaps the Otherworld gains a life of it's own and started pulling people, like James, into it and manifesting their thoughts. James can go down into the basement of a Silent Hill hotel, and find himself in the bedroom of his old house, or something.Where is James going to find a working video player, is Alessa going from nowhere and pull a revelation from her ass?
Video game Cheryl was carried out of Silent Hill and it's Otherworld by her father, who then assumed a new identity, gave her a new name, and raised her in a relatively normal life. The cult, believing her to be the mother of god, tracked her down and lured her to back to Silent Hill with the intention of having her bring forth paradise.
Movie Sharon is presumably still hanging out in the Otherworld with her mother. She was never considered to be the "mother of god" and was, in fact, nothing more than a gigantic pain in the ass to the cult. Why then would the cult bother tracking her down to bring her back to Silent Hill (assuming she somehow magically managed to poof out of the Otherworld)? What motivation would they have to do so? You would think that they would be happy to be rid of her. And who the hell would be looking for her anyway? Are we to assume that there were a few cult members lingering around that didn't get torn to shreds? And how were they able to leave the Otherworld?
A film based on Silent Hill 3 simply would not work, given the first film. I firmly believe Christophe Gans wrote himself into a corner.

Why does it have to be a direct copy of SH3? Wouldn't it be able to work if they changed some things? Gans mentioned that the town has more than one cult, and specifically stated that Jennifer Carroll is the woman in the hotel and church paintings. What if another cult (The Order) believed Alessa was a god, and since they seem to be connected to the Otherworld, were able to find her with her new mom? Or maybe Alessa gets older and decides to fight off her dark side? Or maybe the town could start manifesting Alessa's imprint on it, forcing her to fight it? She doesn't have to be in our world or have blonde hair for an adaptation of SH3 to work.
