Yahoo Games can eat me! :x
Although I admit, the movie was way too confusing.

I don't see how that was funny. At all.

Humor aside, SH was probably the best video game to movie adaption thus far. That being said it still was way off of the original story in several aspects.

Well it's fairly simple. Most people expect any/all game-based movies to suck before they even give them a chance. So yeah, add that general bias with the fact that the movie was a bit confusing (especially to people not even familiar with the game series itself) and well, it can be given a bad rep.

So basically it said: "Silent Hill was smarter and had more symbolism than normal horror movies, so it sucked because we didn't get it."

Silent Hill the movie was smart and symbolic and confusing just like the games it was based off of, it fucking sucked.

I found it funny that silent was on the list i believe that it shouldn't be on there but lets be real Yahoo Games compiled the list. I believe that SH was one of the better game to movie adaptions. Also where is Doom on the list....now that movie was terrible!!!

Ahh, gotcha. Seconded on Doom, that movie was stank.

Silent Hill is the best videogame adaptation thus far.

But still sucked.

(Ah, I'm new here).

I thought the movie was pretty much over explained to the viewer. The only confusing part to me was
PRIME_BBCODE_SPOILER_SHOW PRIME_BBCODE_SPOILER:
How they were still in the fog world at the ending
I guess the average movie viewer has become to dumbed down to understand very much at all anymore :/

@ Drainage,
PRIME_BBCODE_SPOILER_SHOW PRIME_BBCODE_SPOILER:
The dark side of Alessa's soul (Dark Alessa) reunited with the good side of the soul (Sharon) to create a complete rebirth of Alessa living in Sharon's body. Alessa goes home with her newer, better mother (Rose), but chooses to keep her in the fog world. Why Alessa does this is up for speculation, but it's most likely because she simply does not want to return to our world.

I finally saw the movie last weekend after two of my friends cornered me and thrust it upon me.

It fucking sucked. One of the worst movies I've ever seen, and I'm being serious.

I was laughing through half of it, sleeping through the other half. Two hours...are you kidding me? It was just an orgy of every horror cliche in the book. Nothing happened for the first hour and a half of the movie, and too much happened in the last half-hour. I audibly groaned every time the movie switched to Chris' point-of-view. And then I audibly groaned again when it switched back to Rose.

Because really, I didn't give a shit about anyone in that movie. The janitor in the bathroom stall was more fleshed-out as a character than anybody else.

And whoever was in charge of royally fucking-up Akira Yamaoka's music can go straight to hell. I thought, "Well, at least the music for this movie is going to be pretty sweet." And then not even that is executed correctly. Adding all these little effects to his songs that only serve to make them more melo-dramatic and cheesy.

To quote Cybil, "What the fuck is wrong with you people?" Roger Ebert was right, this movie blows. This movie almost made me want to distance myself from the whole Silent Hill universe. I was embarassed to be a fan of this series, if only for a night. I spent the whole night basically saying, "Well, I'm not really big into Silent Hill all that much. I just own a couple of the games. Don't really play them all that much."

Don't they have meetings? Don't these movie people get together and look at the storyboards and assess the direction of the project? Because when I'm writing something for a project, sometimes I throw away entire pages and do them over because they suck.

I swear, man.

Seriously. I <3 Roger Ebert.

Roger Ebert is full of shit. I can't think of even one single well-known reviewer who is as biased and ridiculous as he is. It'd be laughable how he makes it so clear he goes into certain movies planning to hate them and then doesn't actually watch them- except gullible idiots actually listen to him. I stopped giving a crap about anything he had to say when I realized that he couldn't even correctly give the most obvious plot points of some movies at the same time that he accused said films of sucking. If he can't even understand the most basic points that are repeated over and over again, then he didn't watch the movie and therefore has no right to judge it.

I can't give plot points of movies that suck either. Because I either fall asleep and don't watch them, or they suck precisely because they are plotless.

Roger Ebert knows his stuff. He's probably the best movie reviewer in America, next to Leonard Maltin and James Berardinelli.

It is the best videogame adaptation, yeah, but it still sucked even as an adaptation. Maybe there simply shouldn't be more videogame adaptions, because yes, Silent Hill is the best thus far, but this makes me even more pessimist of what is yet to come.

That flashback scene kills all of what Silent Hill is.

And I won't talk about that ridiculous storyline. It's a shame that it has the name Silent Hill on it.

This man is paid to pay attention to movies. If he can't do that, he has no right to comment on them.
or they suck precisely because they are plotless.
That's ridiculous, no movie is plotless. Some plots are dumber than others, but there is no way there's a film out there (besides porn or YouTube videos) with literally no plot at all.

Do you also think he's correct in asserting that video gamers don't use their brains when playing a game? Or the time he said " for most gamers, video games represent a loss of those precious hours we have available to make ourselves more cultured, civilized and empathetic." In other words, he's saying gamers aren't cultured, civilized, or empathetic. How amazingly ignorant is that?

Care to give some specific examples of his supposed bias... other than "he didn't like Silent Hill, therefore he is ridiculous and obviously didn't watch the film"?

Roger Ebert is the only film critic that I actually agree with on a fairly consistent basis (and no, I don't consider myself to be a "gullible idiot"). I've gone through his archives. I've read his reviews. More often than not, I agree with him. Even when I disagree, I can understand the point he is attempting to make. To accuse him of not watching the films he reviews is just completely absurd.

i never understood why hollywood screws up video game movies so badly. i mean if its a good game you just translate it to a movie without changing everything and there ya go. Why's it so hard for hollywood to get this? :?
