Pyramid Head not so scary anymore?

Post by LanceS133 »

After seeing the much more intimidating, taller, muscular, and overall more frightening movie PH, is the game PH less effective to anyone else anymore? Or is it just me?

My reasoning:
Game PH: About the same height as James
Movie PH: Relatively taller then average

Game PH: Looks like mittens for hands
Movie PH: Actual hands

Game PH: Average/smooth looking body, average strength
Movie PH: Very ripped and muscular, looks alot stronger

Game PH: Duck billed "pyramid"
Movie PH: Industrial/metal and pointy/sharper pyramid

You do have good reasoning but my main reason I forgot to point out is that the movie PH seems far too human! Although I do like the actual hands of the Movie PH over the oven mitts of death from the game.

I think the movie PH is far more sinister looking than the SH2 PH. These details you mentioned give it that extra scary appearance in my opinion. I also believe i heard that it was the developer's intent to give PH a more sinister appearance in the movie, but i can't remember where i saw(or heard) it at. I remember that it was because

I like the SH2 Pyramid Head a lot better, the movie one is just too overdone in my opinion. I agree that the movie PH looks more human then creature.

I like them both, in their own way. Both movie and game PH is unique, and scary in a way that few other nemesis are. So they both are best, It's that simple =)

I used to get so freaked out when you first see pyramid head in the hall way with the red light, now the only time he scares me is when he's in the Labrynth and the halls are narrow, especially when you're in the circular one where you get the great knife because you also have the creatures below you hanging, their noises plus the background music, plus pyramid following you...omg...

I was shaking at that point. That was awful. Worth it, but awful. :(

he never really scared me, to be honest, but i think both designs are badass in their own ways. the game version is a bit creepier because the helmet is so disproportionate, and nothing done in real life can compete with that walk he has.
no longer active. thanks for the memories.

I think they were both scary, but if I had to decide, it would def. the game PH. Mostly because when I play the game, I feel like I'm IN the game. So I'm scared to death of PH, trying to outrun him, hoping he doesnt kill ME.

It's all about the Great Knife really... that scraping coming closer and closer

Just because he gets more limelight doesn't mean your game experience should suffer.

How can you NOT be afraid of PH? He's carrying a great knife that can chop you in half! He can kill James!!

I think the movie Pyramid Head partially resembles the "Missionaries" from Silent Hill 3; not necessarily in form factor, but his behaviour and something about his appearance makes me think of that. Pyramid Head in the movie seems to have more of a religious (or demonic) look, like he is a literal icon for punishment.

In the game, he looks to me more like a demented surgeon or serial killer. His purpose in the game isn't religious; it's more revelatory, or more like a dissection of James' memory. His appearance isn't as imposing, but his intention seems to be far more alien and disturbing.

I guess the effect in the game is "Oh shit, what the hell is that? What is he gonna do?" and the effect in the film is "Oh shit, something horrible is going to happen." He's just a monster in the film, but in the game he is more of a manipulative or purposeful creature.
“The sinister, the terrible never deceive: the state in which they leave us is always one of enlightenment. And only this condition of vicious insight allows us a full grasp of the world, all things considered, just as a frigid melancholy grants us full possession of ourselves. We may hide from horror only in the heart of horror."

Because of all the fanart and cosplays (especially the stupid and bad ones), I'm not scared of PH anymore, anywhere. Its just another monster (albeit a badass one) to me.

I think the PH's triangular look in the movie is better style than the octogonal version of the game......that's just me
