I was thinking, could Leonard Rhine be the guy hanging there?

perhaps he wrote a warning message in his blood and signed it before he died

if not I'd actually like to see Leonard Rhine appear in Silent Hill 5 in some way(character, boss, whatever)

I find Leonard Rhine being in SH fairly unfeasable, since other than his message has no connection to the plot and events happening there.

I just made a read over the 'Phantom' novel. The team might have probably looked through the book first before building the town.

The name Rhine is also German. So, I guess he was kind of German.

Is there a source that has a list of all the book/art/music/movie/tv show references in Silent Hill? I'd love to know so I can look them all up sometime.

Well, you can get the movie as well. But the movie has a different ending to the one in the book, so its better to read the book.

I know it's over a year since there was a posting on this thread, but I just started playing through SH1 again and noticed the Leonard Rhine writing on the wall and was curious as to what it meant. And, seeing as I've never read "Phantoms," I obviously wouldn't get the reference.

I think I might check that book out by the way, it sound pretty interesting from what I'm reading.

I think I might check that book out by the way, it sound pretty interesting from what I'm reading.

In the library in Midwich, there are two books. One is a book on psychics by Leonard Rhine. The other is a fairy tale about a hunter and a lizard called "The Monster Lurks." The message on the wall is simply telling the player to go to the library and find those books, since it explains an important aspect of Alessa and how to beat a certain boss.

I'm not sure if you have to read that message before the game lets you read the books, or if you can read the books without seeing the message. But if someone wants to try it, go right ahead.

Great list! I'm in the process of finding Jacobs Ladder. I can't wait to see it. I was suprised to find out that David Lynch refrenced Silent Hill in one of his films. I'm interested to see his work, but I think i'll skip Eraser Head.

^ other way around, really. In Silent Hill 2, the plot element of finding the tape was taken from David Lynch's film, 'Lost Highway'; also in Silent Hill 2, the rape scene with pyramid head is taken from David Lynch's 'Blue Velvet'. But you probably knew that already.

Eraserhead is one of his best films, but I would not suggest watching it as your introduction to his work.

I do remember the refrence to Little Shop of Horrors. Also their was the poster of I think a band somewhere. Um Every street name is a refrence...Wow I can't think of many because their is to many!

I didn't know that, actually. I've heard a lot about 'Blue Velvet'. I think i'll watch that first. I wouldn't wanna miss one of his best films, but it just sounds too disturbing for me

I heard that, in one of David's films, there's a place called 'Club Silencio'. Someone told me it was supposed to be a nod toward Silent Hill. Is that untrue?

"The monster Lurks" is not the book talking about the fairy tale lizard. That book is unnamed.

In the library when Harry comes across the book he says "The Monster Lurks is the book's title." He doesn't mention the author, but it's presumed to be Leonard Rhine, because of the bloody wall writing.

And the following is what the book says:

"Manifestation of Delusions"

stress manifest into external energy with physical effects. Nightmares
have, in some cases, been shown to trigger them. However, one such

It helps explain Alessa and why her dreams have changed Silent Hill.
