Yeah, it's basically just foreshadowing the passage from the book later in the school.
If you haven't read Phantoms, do so. It's a fantastic book. One of Koontz's best, actually. It's nowhere near as predictable as his books are getting to be.
I bought it just for the SH reference, figured if it was good enough to inspire the game, it would be a good read. I was surprised. The whole book gives off that SH vibe. It's gruesome, gritty, and realistic.
