I would welcome a direct remake
Silent Hill is an amazing game. I've just beaten it for the second time last night, and I loved every second of it. The atmosphere and the story and everything else was just breathtaking. I grew up on old games so the graphics don't bother me much. The only thing is that the monsters look really creepy in the concept art, but in the actual game much of their more disturbing detail is lost. The Rompers for example are really quite nasty in the concept art, but in the game they are kinda just like nasty brown chimps. The creators of Shattered Memories have stated that they don't think people would like a remake as much as a re-imagining, but I would love to see the Dark World in 1 with the graphics of 3! And imagine the monsters! The worm-heads could even have like squirming worms and the Incubus would look so much more satanic. And the nasty little tube things hanging out of the Romper's face would be able to be seen. All of this would just be simply awesome. It may or may not happen, I'm assuming not, but it would be awesome.
Until then (If "then" even occurs) I will have to satiate myself with the awesomeness that Shattered Memories looks to be (which is definitely not a bad thing).

There was talk of a remake in 2006 after the film came out. I was so disappointed when they were refused. When I heard of Silent Hill Shattered Memories, I was so excited that it'd be a remake that I was actually a little upset when it turned out to be a 'reimagining'.
I guess that's why I didn't like the idea of SM at first.

I'd rather have a new game. There's really no need for a remake. The graphics are fine, sound is fine, story is fine, everything's fine. Well, except for the voice acting, but it was 1999 and my favorite voice actors weren't big then.

I hear you. I've lost count of the many reviews i've seen that think it's "unplayable" because of the graphics. Saying things like..."It's a great game, but..." or "The plot is good, but the graphics set it back." The voice acting was sub par, but I barely pay any attention to that, anyway. I'm not gonna lie and say I wouldn't be happy to see a remake. However, seeing how that isn't gonna happen any time soon, I'd rather they just leave it alone.Bishop Sasarai wrote:I'd rather have a new game. There's really no need for a remake. I would welcome a remake. I keep saying this. SH1 is my favorite game of all time, yes I can play it over and over even with those graphics, BUT a new game, completely identical to the first one with re-designed monsters, surround sound and killer graphics wouldn't hurt anyone. I would buy it gladly as soon as it was released!

Not that the graphics are even bad or anything, just dated. The voice acting barely bothers me, because I remember when it was frickin AMAZING that anybody talked out loud at all in any game. It would definitely not be necessary to have a remake, and I am more than happy with Shattered Memories, but look;
I'm mostly thinking of the monsters here. So much gloriously disturbing detail is lost on the poor ol' PS1...

It wouldn't both me if it was ever remade with updates, but just so long as it's not at full price. However if it was at full price I think it would be awesome if it was packaged along with the original version of the game. That would be a sweet deal.
Value your failures more than your successes. Successes only last until someone screws them up. Failures are forever. She left...and...I'm lost.

Yeah, I definitely would like a straight up remake. Won't happen though, but yeah I remember when I saw that monster saying "is that a monkey?", and those monsters in the sewers didn't get a real great treatment from the graphics either.

Indeed. They just looked like big preying mantises.
I dreamed I lay in a dark valley and all around me were the titanic forms of archangels. I heard distant voices and I knew these supernatural warriors were chanting a litany...
"We are the Warriors at the End of Time. We are the lost, the last, the unkind. We are the Warriors on the Edge of Time and we're tired, we're tired... We're tired of making love..."
SH1 was my first true horror experience. At the tender age of 12, I discovered the ultimate horror addiction...
If a remake ever happens I will wait in line and buy it.
Also, to the people that won't buy/play it because of it's dated graphics - you really are missing out.
Bring on the PS3 remake *wink wink* - Good idea about packaging SH1 with the remake too!!

The Nowhere-ish end level in 3 contains several locations from SH1, and they look so nostalgically awesome on PS2. Just imagine that but the whole game. That would kick rear. MAJOR rear. PS3 would be even better.
And to the people who "can't" play games because of dated graphics; Fuck you. You are idiots.

Yeah those parts look awesome in SH3 - it's a huge tease! If someone developed a SH1 remake with PS2 graphics it would be mad - with next gen graphics it would be sweet!!rm2kking wrote:The Nowhere-ish end level in 3 contains several locations from SH1, and they look so nostalgically awesome on PS2. I couldn't agree more though - if you "cant" play the game because of the graphics then you need to give yourself an uppercut. Sure, it's not as pretty as Homecoming - but even now it's charm lies in the fact that it's graphically outdated. It's still scary as hell! (the school scares me bad...actually the whole game scares me bad!).
