The Midwich Sound

Have you seen Harry's daughter anywhere? Short, dark hair?

The Midwich Sound

Post by Knick Knack »

Once upon a time I was playing SH1. I beat the Splithead, the world went back to seminormal, etc. etc. I left the school and walked down the pathway towards the street, and the second I passed the cement Midwich Elementary School sign, out of absolutely nowhere came this huge metallic crashing noise. I froze up, thinking a monster was coming or somehow I had triggered a new cutscene...nothing happened. I waited a few more minutes, still nothing. Thinking it was a one-time-only glitch, I asked around and found that the exact same thing had happened to a few friends of mine as they left the school.
So. It seems I've stumbled upon a relatively rare easter egg. :D My question is, has this loud sound happened to anyone else here?

Can't say that I have. It's probably just because I run right into the street and to the other sidewalk though. I'll try it on my next playthrough and get back to you on it.
I once was lost, but am now profound.

It hasn't happened to me once since then. I say save right before leaving Midwich and try it multiple times. (I know that's what I'll be doing next time I test this.)

I've played through SH1 a few times, & I don't think I heard that.

I have played sh1 over 30 times and I did hear it on the original game, but since I got the greatest hits version, I have not been able to hear it(or was it the other way around.). So maybe it has something to do with wich version you have.

If it has, I have not noticed.

Could possibly just be one of those many freak noises one hears in certain places in the game, this one being placed in a rather unusual spot.

Ah yes, I remember hearing that and freaking out thinking the same thing...MONSTER...but nothing came, as you said. Never really put much thought into it though, I just considered it another random SH noise.

I think I remember that. I remember thinking it seemed like a strange place for such a sound, being so wide open that there doesn't seem to be a place it can come from.

That and it's a sound you'd expect out of the Otherworld, not the seminormal fog one. :|

I've tried this time and time again without results.. Would anyone be so kind as to record a video of it and post it on youtube or photobucket or something?

Just out of curiousity, does it sound like the noise you hear when leaving the sewer for the first time?

I don't think it's a glitch. I heard that many times playing again SH, but it's an awesome sound too...
