Day to Night

Have you seen Harry's daughter anywhere? Short, dark hair?

I could be remembering wrong, but I recall reading somewhere that Alessa was apparently the catalyst of the otherworld's creation. I recall when Origins was released some people had a problem with it because Travis interacting the otherworld contradicted something or other about it and Alessa.
Either way, at the very least her powers and suffering were responsible for what it is today. Either way, she's still an important factor in the otherworld as we know it. Her years of suffering combined with the God and her own powers surely would have had some kind of effect on the otherworld, even if it's just a nasty stain that won't go away (as opposed to its creation). In fact, we see examples of such stains in SH2. During the twin PH fight the Virun VII crest is on the floor of the room. It's not something that we know is associated with James (unless he saw it somewhere during his last visit to SH, but I don't recall anything that could prove/disprove that).

^ Good point about the Virun VII crest.

I guess I can't argue with the Alessa creating Otherworld concept . . . But I just personally don't like it. I won't argue with anyone else anymore, but in my own little brain world I'm gonna pretend the Otherworld's been there since the Native American days, cause c'mon, that's cool.

I think the idea that Alessa created the otherworld is cooler, just because I like to think that after the events of SH1 everyone already in Silent Hill who had darkness within them were pulled into their own personal otherworlds resulting in a massive increase in cases of insanity in the area. This would also explain why Alchemilla was re-purposed as an asylum by the time of Homecoming; Brookhaven and Cedar Grove couldn't cope with the sudden influx of crazies.

Alessa created the [otherside]—the rusty, bloody, "alternate" Otherworld. The Otherworld has existed for centuries.

"[otherside]" is a term I don't see used often... would mean the equivalent of "Fog World" is the Otherworld that has existed for centuries while the "Dark World" is the "[otherside]"?

Just for clarification so I'm sure I understand. Pretty sure I agree, as well.

Otherworld = fog, existed for centuries
[otherside] = "alternate," rusty/bloody/industrial, existed since Silent Hill

No uniform terms really exist except for "fog" and "alternate." I've always called them the Otherworld and [otherside], respectively, but I guess Harry does refer to the "alternate" world as the Otherworld.

Maybe we should form a committee and come up with some definitive terms for each layer.

That way, everybody will know how awesome we are.

Haha, there's actually something really funny about that.

I think of the foggy world as just the foggy world. That seems clear enough.
And I think of the dark world inbetween foggy and otherworld in SH1 as the dark world. That also seems clear enough.
The transformation into hellish rusty place can be called otherside, otherworld, or nightmare, either ways fine with me.

"The name Lisa comes from an actress who plays a nurse and is a murderer
in the movie Sanguelia. Her last name is borrowed from Judy Garland,
who plays a character in The Wizard of Oz who has lost her way in a
dreamland."

"Alice in Wonderland and The Wizard of Oz are important reference books."

"The otherworld in the first game is a world manifested
from the depths of Alessa's consciousness. The reason why many items and
solutions to riddles that originate from works like Alice in Wonderland
and The Wizard of Oz appear is that these are Alessa's favorite books from
her childhood. In other words, they indicate that the otherworld itself
is produced by Alessa. Similarly, an illustration from The Lost World,
which is one of her favorite books, is used as a motif for one of the
creatures that appears in the first game. Also, Alice and Oz are both
stories about young girls who lose their ways in an 'otherworld.' Such
content also suggests Cheryl and the protagonist, who have lost their ways
in the otherworld."
Harry was abviously led into the 'rabbit hole' in the introduction of the game.
The keys to eclipse are named after certain characters in The Wizard of Oz.

How come people who grew up listening and watching these stories don't see the references?
I have never read/seen The Wizard of Oz and my knowledge on Alice In Wonderland is based on the Disney cartoon & movie adaptations.
