Really, The Katana is my fav weapon, killing nurses is a snap with it.
Infact, I use it most of the game sometimes.
I also use the Katana to kill the final boss in SH3.
I use the shotgun while she'e standing then quickly switch to the Katana when she's down, inflicts severe damage.

I like the Katana in 3 more than I do in 1.
Harry kinda 'floats' forward and I never really got used to it

I MUST have ALL the extra weapons or i might feel empty...or something, yeah, i'm obsessive and proud of it, i'm also proud of my terrible grammar and spelling. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP, i have it now, i got it yesterday and did my happy dance, couldn't resist, thanks to all of you!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I can't imagine playing like that. I suck too much at video games. Then again, if you rush and know exactly what you're doing (like you're supposed to to get a good rating anyway), the game isn't actually that long. Couple hours. So it's not so horrible if you have to start over. Frustrating, but not really terrible.

I started Silent Hill 1 again today just heading out of the school and it's taken me 1 hour and 30 minutes, but i suppose I haven't played it for about 4 years.

The Katara is always random, you can get it on your first play through, you can get it on you 25th play through, it's random.

i got the katana on my third play thru, try n get for completion purposes i guess but its really not that gr8!!!!!!!

I read in an FAQ that you gained the Katana by beating the game with one Good type of ending and one Bad type of ending. It worked perfectly for me, as far as I can tell. I think that the FAQ was by Conqueror, and it's on gamefaqs.com.

I've replayed the game 3 times since my post and I still am katanaless!!! I've checked a bunch of websites (including gamefaq) and according to them I should have the katana by now. But if what Xigz said is true then it may just be random and I don't know when I'll get it. But I've beaten the game atleast 20 times now and I have gotten every ending and every other weapon. And I only ever save twice in the game. No worries guys, hopefully I'll be able to get it someday, after a major loss of sanity *twitch*

I recently tried for the katana for the first time, and got it with no problem. It's a bit weird watching Harry glide forward with every swing, but I can't wait to see it in action against the little demon rugrats coming up.

The guide I checked on GameFAQs speculated that you needed the Bad+ ending and 2 or less saves, so those were the requirements I met on my second playthrough. On my first playthrough, I got the Good ending and unlocked the gas tank/rock drill.

My first run was on Easy mode, and the second was Normal difficulty, so Hard mode is not a requirement.

to get the katana first complete the game and see if it appears at the end, if it does dont start a new game on the previos saved game, start a new one(not new fear) the katana is where u use the 3 keys PS it sucks...

I always thought that you just have to finish the game with Good + ending. Every time I did this I've got the katana. I never checked the guides, maybe it really is random...

It's random. I finished up with the Bad ending with a horribly-low rank and I still got it.

The folks in Tenchu've got a weird way of using their swords if Harry's doing it in the same manner. (I've never played Tenchu, so.) He slides forward like woah when he swings that thing; it actually makes it really hard to hit anything.
