Anybody else remember that god-awful noise that you hear that progrssively gets louder as you get closer to the Antique Store from the Hospital? Does it even mean anything?

I just through that in there...it was a serious question...like what makes the Antique Store so special that it makes the noise for that as opposed to the Lighthouse or something...

I've contributed plenty to the board...nothing earthshattering. Not every post I make is nonsense. Prove me wrong.

I think the answer is gameplay oriented. The lighthouse is in a fairly linear section of the game with only one path, so you're not likely to miss it. The Antique Store, on the other hand, has a very small entrance and is located within one of the larger areas of the game, so the chances that it will be missed, leaving the player to wander around aimlessly, are much higher. That's why it gets louder the closer you get, like a homing beacon.

More generally it was just a really disturbing sound, it doesn't really have to have a reason to work successfully.

I hated that noise.I just figured it was kinda like the built in GPS system telling you were to go.A golden rule of silent hill(at let it is my rule)If there is music or blood and gore,you are right where you are supposed to be. :mrgreen:

Wow. At first I thought you guys were talkgin about some kinda ambient noise, but now I remember it. It was that
[spoiler]whining sound, which is heard in the Good+ cutscene before the Icubus, but that Good+ cutscene whine is different, but they're same-ish[/spoiler]

lol it's Devil's Lyric i was listing to it few days ago and playing Sh1 at the same time after i got the key from Dahila damn that woman in nuts..so ya it is that after you get the key and go to the town center

I thought the noise was like a burglar alarm for the antique store or something, because isn't the window shattered or something...or am I losing my mind? That noise was extremely annoying. :shock:

I don't remember any window shattering aside from the cafe at the very beginning. I could be wrong, it's been a long time since I played the first one. I guess I tuned the noise out because I don't remember it being that annoying.

True. It tells you that you are close. That noise is meant for you to follow it like you had to follow Cheryl in the beginning.
