Sometimes you win... sometimes you lose.

Post by TomWaltz »

Here are two reviews by the same reviewer for my two Silent Hill comic book series at IDW.

First, Silent Hill: Sinner's Reward:

http://www.lunch.com/Reviews/d/Silent_H ... 49358.html

Next, Silent Hill: Past Llife

http://www.lunch.com/reviews/d/UserRevi ... cking.html

Just goes to show that, in this industry, you can't always please everyone, eh? :)

I am very happy he liked both the wonderful artists I got to work with, though!

Hope this finds everyone doing well!

Best,

Tom Waltz

Whoa, -2? That's absolutely harsh. I admit I had a hard time understanding Past Life and it's not my favourite story out there, but it was done pretty decently nonetheless, I thought. Hopefully they'll enjoy Downpour a lot more!

I enjoyed SILENT HILL: PAST LIFE, and, in the SILENT HILL world, only my opinion matters. So there. ;)

I loved both comics, they were extremely well done, though I do admit Past Life did confuse me a bit, but after reading through the comic twice once I finished it the first time, I got it, :) The comics are EXTREMELY good, better than most out there today! I loved the comics, ^-^

I love the Silent Hill Series. The games: Homecoming, Origins, and Shattered Memories, did nothing wrong whatsoever, they were developed well, and did things different. Just because they were not by Team Silent doesn't mean that they're bad games. I believe in this series. I believe that one day, we can have a game that will make all Silent Hill fans Happy. I believe that Silent Hill Downpour can achieve this.
Team Silent may be gone, but their series isn't. Instead... it's here, it's alive.

If you agree, add it to your sig.

Review #2 wrote:unfortunately Past Life misses on what makes Silent Hill great by a wide margin.
Yunno, I love when people use such a vague and ambiguous quality to offer what they consider a definitive judgement of the value of a related work, as if "what makes Silent Hill great" was an objective qualifier with a clearly-defined metric.

I mean, I didn't read the comic yet, but I already think it'll probably suck because the cover just misses out on what makes black such an awesome color.

Maybe the story line in PL was too psychological for his taste. Who knows? As far as most hard core Silent Hill fans are concerned, you please all the time. So there. :D

Thanks, SilentWren!

But, it's okay -- the reviewer, like everyone else, is very welcome to his opinion. I was just showing the two reviews to demonstrate that you can't always please everyone... and that's okay. As I said, I'm happy he dug the artwork on both books and I always appreciate reviewers taking the time to give honest attention to my work, whether they like it in the end or not.

Hope everyone is is happy and healthy!

Take care,

It's a good thing Silent Hill doesn't exist to please everyone. :)

Really though, the only other SH comic I've read is Dying Inside. Compared to Dying Inside, I found PL to be a lot more in line with the series' core themes, values and visual aspects. This, and it stood on its own in many respects, such as the story and the setting, while staying true to Silent Hill's uniquely diverse feel and experience.

That's right, I said uniquely diverse. If that makes sense.
