Hell Descent: Silent Hill: Past Life Issue #1 Review

Post by Arsenic13 »

Silent Hill: Past Life is the second foray into the Silent Hill series for Tom Waltz. This time around, Tom decided to tell the earliest tale ever from Silent Hill. The Past Life series will follow Jebediah “Hellrider” Foster, and his newly wed Esther’s life in Silent Hill. The married couple have left Dakota in search for a new life. Jebediah was once a hardened criminal, but due to the kindness of his wife Esther, he has decided to settle down and become a proper man. Perhaps Silent Hill wasn’t the best place for the newlyweds to go.

Silent Hill Past Life #1 Review Thread

Post by Whitney »

Hi Guys,

Tom Waltz was kind enough to email me a preview copy of Silent Hill Past Life earlier this week and I've finally got my review of the Silent Hill Past Life #1 up :) I really enjoyed the comic and I'm definitely looking forward to issue #2. Definitely the BEST Silent Hill comic so far:

Moved to Silent Hill Media.

Also, I have received an early copy and will be doing an official review for Silent Hill Heaven in the next few days.

^There aren't enough thanks to go around in this thread, then.

I guess I better save most of my rambling for Droo's review, but one thing that did catch my eye was Tom Waltz's "wise old guy" characters in the comics. You know, the one's who "know something you don't." I wonder what that's about. Maybe an ex-cult member? Idk, but it's a very interesting addition to the Silent Hill world. The only characters we got like that in the video games were current cult members, and I know how much you guys love those. <3

Whitney got one, Hell Descent got one, Linkara from thatguywiththeglasses.com got one. Tom Waltz is really appealing to the fanbase.

Really excited about this.

In the review, the first example picture of other SH comics sums up my thoughts on them exactly. They're embarrassing. I feel bad for anyone who for some reason picks up those comics and judges Silent Hill based on it.

I could barely finish my first Dying Inside issue and completely lost interest in the SH comics from therein.

It's because so many other fans praised Sinner's Reward that I regained faith and now have so much faith in this comic and Waltz writing the story to SH8. Waltz being involved in the community is really cool too. He's even signed up on another really small SH forum I go to too~ (the remains of old SHF).

After seeing the art, I kind of wish Menton3 was involved to some extent in the art for the game too.

Damn, I remember when the SH series even continuing was questionable at some points. Now it has such a bright future ahead of it. Awesome and weird.

I dislike Howard Blackwood explicitly perpetuating the erroneously common idea that Silent Hill has always been capable of projecting peoples' subconsciouses. It's just not true.

Well, apparently SH8 is tied into the main series so far. So there's some new canon for you.

Tommy doesn't like new canon. It makes him rock back and forth in his room, clutching his copy of Lost Memories, weeping softly to himself.

Oh, and for those who are interested, the SHH review is now up: http://www.silenthillforum.com/viewtopi ... 22&t=22521

A very good review indeed, I liked how it went in an other direction by giving more background information instead of the formula: "Story - characters - art - etc."
