I've noticed that all over the place, especially on some other forums and online questioning sites, that there are people questioning if there is music that people make irl (not for video games) that sound similar to the Silent Hill soundtracks.
So, I have created this thread so that we can share and ask for music that is reminiscent of any Silent Hill OST.
I'm actually looking to see if there are any bands and singers that sound like the vocal tracks with Mary Elizabeth. Can anyone answer me?
~
One of the most commonly named similar bands would be Portishead (not sure if I spelled it right, oh well).
The Pierces (band) has some songs that remind me of Silent Hill games (they could even fit into a SH-type game). Namely, Ruin and Sticks and Stones. Only because their vocal style and the guitar. They usually right a lot of lyrics about love, though.
So, anyone else have some recommendations?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zcc7DEWRPUMaybe Someday by the amazing The Cure (best band ever!) reminds me a lot of "Promise" from SH2.

A bit off-topic, but i thought some would found this interesting as I seem to have found the opening sample in PJ Harvey's "The Darker Days of Him and Me". It's called "SATELLITE" and is found in the TIME MACHINE LOOPS from ZERO-G's ALTERED STATES.

Björk's 'An Echo A Stain': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0ZAmpnbRToPerhaps not completely Silent Hill, but it has this extremely mysterious and dreamy atmosphere that reminds me of Silent Hill

Lots of COIL reminds me of Silent Hill. Mostly in surreal atmosphere. One track I always mistook as a SH song was Aphex Twin's song Trees. I'd always have to check the name because I'd think it was something from Silent Hill 3. Listen to the first 30 seconds and you'll probably know what I mean http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3q3VBpYdjq4Same with Aphex Twin's Stone in Focus, though less so http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkVT2NwiAgY

There's one Rasputina song that reminds me of the OSTs, especially if it didn't have any words in it, the music alone would seem to fit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvHUWgTzLLQ

To go off what ashatteredmemory said, another song from the Path that I felt had a pretty nice SH vibe to it: Woodsman WolfIt's probably my favorite song of the game anyhow, and the bit that it plays in just makes my skin crawl.

You guys need to listen do David Lynch's new Album "Crazy Clown Time". The music is crazy and all over the board, but there are a lot of tracks that have a very distinct Silent Hill quality to them (e.g., "The Night Bell With Lightning", "So Glad", "Noah's Ark", "I Know").
It is almost like a mixture of Twin Peaks and Portishead, with some weird other stuff thrown in left and right.
Definitely worth a listen!

If you're interested in a voice like McGlynn's, I was shocked at how much she sounds like the singer Poe. Her music isn't all that similar, though. Give the song "Haunted" a listen.
I've said it before, but Massive Attack's instrumental songs (and some of the songs they did with female vocalists) sound Silent Hill-esque sometimes. My SH-loving friend wondered why he hadn't heard one of the songs I was playing in my car until I told him it was Massive Attack.

Definitely worth a listen! Yeah, I mentioned it in a similar topic I think, it's very cool. I don't like Good Day Today very much but the rest are great, especially the one with the chick from the Yeah Yeah Yeah's. I'd also recommend the album he recently did with Christa Bell.

This song is called "Five Years." by Sugar Hiccup.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgXBdlkMFCgYou've probably never heard of this song before. When I was young my sister used to play it in our stereo on long drives and it's real freaky to listen to at night. Also, I'm surprised no one's mentioned Metric. Namely, the songs: -Help, I'm Alive -Blindness -Collect Call Enjoy!

I think posting here now wouldn't count as a double post? Although I played Diablo 1 when I was about 8 before SH1 was even released, the Tristram theme would probably remind the average gamer who hasn't played Diablo of SH. Tristram Theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2evIg-aYw8
