No it wasn't. When SHV was finally announced, Konami said it would be released on both the PS3 and 360. They must have eaten their own earlier statement saying that they would develop for the most powerful next-gen console.

Most developers usually develop for the 360 first, then port to the PS3. Hence, why many PS3 ports look crappy. I honestly hope the PS3 port looks better, if not the same as the 360 version.

It's looking very, very nice. I hope the puzzles are more of the mind-benders that we got in 1, 2 and 3 (complete with hard modes). Those were some of my favorite parts of the game.

I like how actions can affect endings, more than just points. :) One of the reasons SH1 is still my favorite of the series is because the ending you got was determined by what you did, not how well you did. First time through I never got very bad ending because I forgot the Aglophitis in the hospital and I never even knew about the whole Indian Runner/Annie's Bar/Kauffman thing. It gave me a real incentive to play again, as well as a reason to explore (other than items and the sake of exploring).
I'm offended by political correctness.

After looking at those scans, I can't help but say I'm super excited to see how it plays out. :3

It's looking pretty good so far....something about the monsters is putting me off though. Maybe it's just me, but with the exception of the nurses and the thing that vaguely looks like a lying figure, none of them quite match up to other creatures from the series so far in my opinion. But most of the new gameplay additions sound great too. I'm a bit iffy as to how the idea of the "climactic" boss fights will turn out - I'm optimistic about it, but it also sort of seems like an attempt to imitate God of War or something (but again, that could just be me being overly judgmental). Looks amazing, too. I'm not a graphics whore or anything, but it's looking damn good. And the idea of real-time weapon wounds just made me squeal with delight.

Well, I think the best thing about this is that it's still in production, so they'll probably still have some final touches to clean up the monsters. I can't wait to see what the next update will look like.

I think that's the whole point, heh.

Those nurses though, damn. I'd totally hit it.... with a Steel Pipe.

The nurses, like in Origins, are just rip-offs from the Silent Hill movie's art direction.
Cheap choice to go with a design from a commercial success movie, rather then creating something fresh.

Also, the graphics doesn't look that awesome at all. Look at other next gen games, there are plenty that surpass this alot. I really hope that these are very very early shots and that the game will evolve enough to live up to real next gen.
My opinion is that Silent Hill 3 still surpass some of the new games out there, because of it's marvelous lightning and faceanimation. Some scenes just look real in that game, because teamsilent concentrated on the art rather then the tech. I really don't care if the havoc engine is in this or not, that is a discussion I like to have when talking about Half Life 2 or something. Silent Hill must never become a technological game. When Silent Hill 2 came out, I didn't here the developers talk anything about the technology. Even the "making of" doc talked more about Silent Hill 2 as a work of art. The third did so too...

The game industry comes closer to becoming a techgeek market instead of a place to tell great stories in an interactive way. I just hope that the developers focus on the art and give a crap about how the enemies can fall into stuff in a realistic way... that's pretty "so what?"

^ And I already thought that I'm the only one 'not excited' about SH5 but you are exagerating. You ain't keeping up with the times, now 1st what matters is technology then comes the rest, consoles aren't consoles anymore just a high end PCs. Soon every gamer will be familiar with terms like high dynamic range or full screen antialiasing, bump mapping etc. But still it is possible to make a great memorable game, comparable with SH2, and yet in trurly next gen setting.

I don't like too the idea how easily (both) developers ripped off movie artwork and implemented it in both games but it will eventually turn out that it was very good decision. Cuz lets be honest, the 'silenthillish-like' special effects in movie looked goddamn good 8)

Agree and disagree~
I really dont like how they pulled stuff from the movie.
Yes the monsters in the movie were insanly awsome, but not being able to come out with original ideas.... c'mon

How did I miss this stuff?

Anyway, I'm extremely excited. I'll just rattle off my thoughts on a list:

- I'm relieved that the game is going to be nice and dark- those early screens were far too bright. At the same time, the scenes with strong light sources shown here look very cool.

-The monster designs seem like a mixed bag at this point. I love the nurses and the split-head thing (they have an almost "embryonic" look to them with the pale skin) but I'm less enthusiastic about the creature in the attic with the wings. Siam is disturbing as hell, but the gimp costume is a bit corny. I think it would look better if they made it dirtier and harder to see. The general art direction of the enemies seems to be good overall, though. I',m very interested in the epic boss fights mentioned.

- That puppet thing gives me the willies. Could this be a boss?

- New combat system? Finally!

- Jacob's Ladder gurney ride! Yay!

- "The less you see, the scarier it is". I think I just fell in love with The Collective

- The improved enemy AI is a welcome change. I just know I'm going to wet myself the first time an enemy comes crashing through a door at me.

- I can imagine that the inclusion of the havoc engine will result in all kinds of "Oh crap" moments. They should include one section where an unkillable enemy comes out of the walls at you if you make too much noise, then force the player to walk through a corridor full of wheelchairs or something.

Erm, I don't know which next-gen games you're talking about, but from what I see in those screenshots SHV looks on par with other next-gen games at the very least. As you've said earlier, this is probably just an early build and we might see better as the year pasts.

What about The Collective talking about how they were experimenting with different filters? Or that they motion captured animations for the monsters?

Which is kinda funny when you think about it, as the nurses from the movie were based off the nurses from SH2...so wouldn't that make it a double rip-off? I actually really liked those nurse designs, more than the black-haired nurses from SH3. The ones in SH4 don't count in my opinion.

Either way, I keep being surprised by peoples reactions to the game. It's not done, they're still working on it, so let's not bring out the torches and pitchforks until we see stuff for the final release. :)

Anyway... I did like SH2's nurse... and I kind of liked the Movie's nurses... cept their coreography... ^^() I found it kinda funny... But I don't know... something about the nurses in this one seems more... I don't know how to say it but they aren't really creepy or scary anymore...

They will probably be a lot more creepy when you see them in motion.

I think since they're doing motion capture to make the character movements more realistic will bring a new level to the general creepiness. Having the movements be closer to those of a real human's while still having the jitter and spasms of the old SH will probably amplify how disturbing it is. What do you guys think?

I agree completely, its the human parody element is what makes them creepy to begin with. Not everyone has seen a bear, crocodile, alien or monster before in person. But, everyone has seen a person. Human morality really is the key to the SH monsters. You can compare their actions to serial killers, murders, rapists, psychopaths and the morally inept. They also embody all negative aspects of human nature.

Hmm..while I still have strong qualms about it, I've had my hope for this game revived after reading that and viewing the screenshots. I really hope the girl that was mentioned doesn't become some kind of "sidekick", though--the one thing I hate more than anything else in videogames is escorting people around, even if they're capable of defending themselves.
