wow, "asphyxia" is pretty blunt. kind of ruins the effect, in my opinion...

it's cool to see some other characters, though. and i really like the "2x4 head" and all of the "feral"s. you can never go wrong with bloodthirsty zombie dogs.

Really, today I got to look at all that concept art from SH5 and then I went to the monsters gallery from SH2, the diferences are disgusting.... its like putting a david cronemberg film next to saw.... and I know lots of you people might love saw... but its crappy terror EXTREEEEME style, and I fucking hate EXTREME style.... fuck those skateboards.

Some of those monster designs are just bad. There's way too much detail in a lot of them; what sticks out in my mind the most about the Silent Hill monsters was their simplicity; their utter lack of detail: usually it was just a general shape (bipedal, animal or bird like) with odd blotches of color. Those monsters were so freaky because they were familiar enough to be recognizable yet still other-worldly.

These just look like messed up Resident Evil monsters. Hopefully their pixel renditions will look better.

I like a lot of detail, myself. I found monsters like Numb Body extremely stupid and wasn't frightened of them at all. Same thing with the Closers... not bad designs, but nothing truly "creepy".

The only monsters I really found creepy in the SH games were the Patients, Bobblehead Nurses, Victims 7&8 (though I really wish they kept the baby sounds in there), and of course, Pyramid Head. Oh and the Mumblers were good, too.

closers still manage to freak me out just because of their combined height and gangly-ness. the twin victims were great for the same reason, although similarly large monsters in the series haven't done it for me... just those two. i'm not sure what it is.

the walkin dude said it best, although there are a few monsters i've seen so far that look awesome. the one with the huge claws and "schism" come to mind.
