Mockingbird wrote:>i actually recall the firt game having quite a bit of blood.
It really didn't.
this is all a matter of opinion. if you feel that way, that's cool
i'm not saying the first SH was chock full of blood everywhere, but IMO it definitely had more than SH2 & 4. and no, im not confusing the blood with the rust, although there was a lot of that too.
one thing i think is safe to say is that with the hollywoodisation of silent hill, the unique flavour of horror it brought to the table will start to waver being as its missing the talent that brought the first 3 games together and the collective will just be bringing the obvious shit to the forefront that made the series original, somewhat making it stale if that makes any sense
they'll basically just be copying elements from the other games that made them great but i think they'll fuck it up
i say this stuff because i WANT them to prove me wrong but i don't think it'll happen
edit: hi by the way....i used to visit this place a loooooooooooooooooooooooong time ago but have been doing other things. just thought i'd throw my 2 cents worth in
Right now I'm reserving judgment... and honestly I'm trying to not let my self get suckered into watching to much stuff before the game actually hits the shelves... I've managed to control myself when it comes to the other installments in the series because... I want to not have any preconceived notions as to what the business will be about when I finally start digging in.
I think it lacks the overall disturbing atmosphere. From the screens, it just looks like a dark, out-door location, like Anytown, USA. I guess it just doesn't have the twisted, rotting, grating feel the others had. I'm hoping that it's due to the screens being early, but I also feel that, if that second screen is a taste of the new "Otherside" version, it lacks the ominous, foreboding, oppressiveness of, say, SH3.
I would prefer to see it in motion, though. Maybe that will change my tone

How many more threads do we need slagging on the game before it comes out? Isn't there a sticky thread for that?
Look, I understand the concern, as this is obviously a beloved franchise, and I can understand not wanting to get your hopes to high in fear of a massive letdown. But that practice works both ways, and it seems like a lot of the naysayers here are actively searching for reasons not to like this game; which strikes me as quite silly considering 1 - you're basing your judgement on a minute amount of information and 2 - despite how much some of the naysayers nitpick and complain, you're still going to play the game when it comes out.
Is this game going to be perfect? Absolutely not, the concept of perfection is impossible and it's downright foolish to expect it. Is this game going to destroy the franchise? Call me naive, but I doubt it, as I'd like to think that Akira and Co. would pull the plug on the development before it got that bad. I'm hoping for a great installment of the series, but I'm not going to get my hopes up. That doesn't mean I'm looking for failure either.
I apologize for the rant, but for an online community full of SH fans there seems to be a lot of slagging on here recently. I know I'm not the most active member here by any stretch of the imagination, so I may not have room to speak, but I fail to see how thread after thread of SH5 bashing is proactive to a fan community and I'd personally like to see a decline in this trend.
Bashing? Nah. At least, I'm just expressing how the game differs from my expectations. From the look of the screens, and the gameplay elements, it seems the developers have strayed the path a little, which, being fans of the series, I think we all should discuss, be the change for the better or worse, or should it take away or lend to the magnitude of the series as a whole, esspecially considering that this is the franchise's first step into the next generation of consoles, which seems to be a reason to keep our expectations high. Being fans doesn't mean we have to love everything about every installment to death.
I'm not saying you have to love every aspect of the series - the film was questionable, the comics are pure swill, and I can point out things I didn't like about every game - I'm just saying that it seems to me that there is a notable amount of indifference and doubt towards this franchise.
Fair enough. On the positive side, I saw some updated video, and have to say that I'm excited to see that the indoor locations are creepy as ever, and movement is smooth and well-animated. The combat looked a bit lacking, but I only saw a few seconds worth.
I wish they would show more than just the nurses in motion, though

How many more posts do we need of people saying, 'don't say anything critical, it's not even finished'. Honestly? Yes we all know it's not finished yet, we're not stupid. But I'd way sooner hear peoples honest opinions on the preview footage, than fan boys just saying 'it's silent hill so it must be good'. If you don't like people critique on preview footage than don't read it and don't get involved.
The blood is not only the issue in the case of SH5. The fact that we are dealing with a new team of conceptors make it a problem. For what i've heard, the word ''new'' always come out of there mouth in every interview and that is quite a problem. Well, ''new'' is always welcome, but i hope that they will not forget about the very soul of Silent Hill. Of course, that is only my opinion.

What I fear and what I am seeing is not good news. Seems every new news (say that 10x fast) they announce is making the game worse. Silent Hill has become a casual gamer's experience and that is bad.

Agreed. I cant imagine how making the 5th iteration of the series the most accessible is going to help anyone.
Like mentioned previously, I just do not think that certain filters are applied for the final yet - and it seemed to be a lot more than just a noise filter in the past.
It could be that there are places in the game that will be in a higher contrast to that of these very clean looking areas. I think it might even have more of an effect this way when you do approach it.
If you think Silent Hill 5 is different compared to the other. Just check out Resident Evil 5, its nothing like the originals. Its not even survival horror anymore.
See, that's the cool thing; Silent Hill and Resident Evil are two different games.
RE is a fast-paced, hard-hitting, guns-blazing zombie killathon.
SH is a get-in-your-head, mind-playing, paranoia-inducing campfire story.
Anyone else notice the protagonist looks to be in his 50s? I know he isn't that old, but he looks that way to me

I didn't react well to that.
So that explains the 'hold-yer-hand' type of gameplay. Damn.

Yeah, but it's a hard balancing act, it's a game on a next gen console, so it will look "shiny", so I have confidence that the different filters will help in the final appearance of the game. I think we have to keep in mind appearance and the story/gameplay are two VERY different things.
