Ellie

Ellie is the Greek word for Light.

So who is her counterpart? I say it's Lillian.

Yeah especially since Lillian is similar to "Lilith". Elle might be a reference to "Eve", Adam's second wife.

Then again, Eileen's name also meant "light" too. So did Helen Grady's ("Helen").

Then on the other hand, Elle may not have a counterpart.

(It's "Elle", not being nitpicky, but someone else might jump you for that... )

With all due respect, you are wrong. The greek word for "light" is "Fos".
The ancient greek word for light, as far as I remember, is "lyc" (although I might be wrong for that last one, it's been 7 years since I last did ancient greek lessons, and I was in high school then).

The name Ellie comes from the English origin. In English the meaning of the name Ellie is: Diminutive of Ellen: A variant of the Greek Helen, meaning shining light, or most beautiful woman.

Helen (or to put it correctly, Eleni) has nothing to do with the word "light", etymologically. But whatever, I'm pretty sure that if Helen meant Shining light, greek pupils would have learned it in school. And I was a pupil in a greek school, so...
Ah, whatever :P
