What's with the french?

Post by der Morgenstern Czigany »

My bad if this was mention before or if it seems alittle....dumb.

I just got SH:5 and noticed that it's half in english and half in- i assume- french. Why? I'm just curious 'cause they never did that before. It's also alittle odd to me since on the back of the game, on the packaging, mine said "made in mexico." (Although I assume that's just the wrap since the game itself says "made in USA").

Is this the same with any of your game?

:?

I'm confused... What exactly do you mean? IN the game itself or some kind of packaging on it? I don't remember seeing anything French. Except in the manual with all the different languages. Mind you I haven't played it for a while but still something like that would have stuck in my mind and I'm surely not that forgetful.

Sorry. I meant the manual and on the packaging (like on the back of the game where it gives a summary and what-not). It says it in english and then (I think) in French. I was just curious on why because they never did it before.

Yes, it's french. Did you buy it on the internet? Many games include bilingual covers. This is so more people would understand it obviously.
But it says the same thing in both languages, so don't worry about missing half of the text because it says the exact same thing.

All US versions have both French and English packaging. It is a bit odd. Why French of all languages? I could understand if it were Spanish...

I'm guessing that the North American release is the same as the Canadian release, which would be the reasoning behind it...

^ I'm guessing that, too. I thought it was pretty neat.

Now the French want our games. Curse them. I'm kidding, of course.

No, my dad got it for me at the store (which store, I don't know).

If, "the North American release is the same as the Canadian release," I assume that would make sense then, to why it's in French. :/

Haha, I had never looked at it closely and thought it was Spanish, which would make sense. French, now that's weird. I suppose the North American version was intended to account for French Canadians. I guess Latin Americans are too poor to play these games.

^ Well the packaging of my game said Made In Mexico, so I assume they don't play the game; they just wrap it.

Yep. Mine too. I think it is that way on most newer games. All of the games I have for the Wii have instructions in French/English as well.
Canada is part of North America after all. :)

I thought it was a little strange at first too, only because I figured if they had two different languages it would be in spanish. :|
I think VIVIsect is probably right.

I found it ammusing because I thought that the packet had a ton of stuff in it since it was so thick. Alas, I was mistaken.

I guess Latin Americans are too poor to play these games.

I'm pretty positive that Latin Americans being too poor to pay for the game is neither true or the reason why the game manual is not also in spanish.
Even though I know you're just kidding. :\

I've seen this on games for years now, and I'm pretty sure the reasoning lies in not having to craft a separate package for Quebec, since I believe bilingualism is mandated there.
