The thing that killed the mayor was his son--in one way or another. Asphyxia didn't almost kill Holloway. It never even got near her, actually.
Though I do agree that a part of me believes the kids came back for revenge, or their feelings of anger/anguish led to a manifestation of monsters that would enable them to get revenge on their parents (the only problem here being how Asphyxia isn't given a chance to go after her mother...). Still, I can't help but wonder if there's another point to it.

>I think Holloway most likely knew her daughter would soon be coming for her and lead alex to that room to deal with it.
Yup! I thought so, too.
And.. well, as for your question regarding Pyramid Head, that's what we're discussing lol. I don't think his purpose was JUST to punish Adam in the way in which you described. I think, personally, that he was there to punish Adam for things in which Alex held against him. I bring up, again, the image of the executioner stabbing the soldier in the back in the church, to which Alex responds, "What did he do to deserve this?" Well, Alex knew that all along.
There's also two more threads about Pyramid Head in the Quicklinks, a floated topic at the top of the page on the main page for this section. That may help you out if you're still curious.

Doesn't that imply that Holloway knew Asphyxia would appear? That's pretty unlikely.KROD wrote:When thinking about it i do believe its their feelings of anger and anguish. I think Holloway most likely knew her daughter would soon be coming for her and lead alex to that room to deal with it.
She does grin when closing the door behind Alex but i don't think it was a trap for him in the first place.

I think they're manifestations of the parents' guilt, and that the children as actual spirits, except for maybe Josh, don't play any real role. Those monsters are the Shadows of the parents, not the vengeful spirits of the children. Mayor Bartlett seems to have been interacting with his for a while, apparently feeding it. This wouldn't be the case if it was the wrath of Joey.Though I do agree that a part of me believes the kids came back for revenge, or their feelings of anger/anguish led to a manifestation of monsters that would enable them to get revenge on their parents (the only problem here being how Asphyxia isn't given a chance to go after her mother...). They only seem to change into the boss versions of themselves when they come into contact with a possession of theirs from when they were alive. Joey gets the watch, Scarlet the doll, Nora the locket and it's at this point that they change. Although whether this is because the parents, holding their childs prized possession suddenly realise the full magnitude of what they have done and manifest the bosses, or it's the children's spirits I'm unsure.

I think Alex giving the flashlight to Josh in the end was symbolic and has nothing to do with the other items. The key item that had to do with manifesting Amnion was the ring Adam gave Alex before his execution. The ring really was Josh's like the other items belonged to the other children.
Alex just lend the flashlight to Josh so he could finally sleep in that one scene.

i dont think Josh had any influence on the amnion anyway. wasnt that thing suppose to be Alex's over protectiveness and denial that Josh was dead? Josh was obviously already dead and buried. Alex should have given it to him at his funeral, but, you know, insanity got the way and thats how he was able to return it to him

How could Josh have no influence when it has his face and he's stuck inside it? Not to mention it's in the shape of a spider, Josh's favorite insect. Saying that Josh had no influence over Amnion is like saying none of the other kids had an influence over their boss figures, either. Does no compute, I'm afraid.
I'm not dead yet, dammit.
i never noticed his face was like that, but the fact that Josh is in the amnion is suppose to be Alex defeating his over protectiveness and coming to face with his transgression. Josh's dead body is like the icing on the cake, there he is, dead as a doornail. cant save him, cant bring him back.
Josh didnt have any anger or resentment to Alex did he? usually thats why they take monster form, for some kind of revenge.

We're straying a bit from topic again lol
My belief about PH being in this story is indeed the role of executioner and punisher. I don't agree with whoever stated that SH has no permanent beings attached to it. It has been stated before that Pyramid Head could be one of the smaller gods mentioned in SH 3. Valtiel is also an everlasting creature, it's mentioned in Lost Memories that although not fully seen, he was present during past game.
I personally support that notion that Valtiel and Pyramid Head are the red and yellow gods mentioned in SH3, it makes a lot of sense to me. Although we have yet to see Valtiel in any other form, we have with PH. There is even the chance that The Butcher from 0rigins is one and the same creature, but presented differently.
As for purpose, I think PH may be there for Alex indirectly. He is not there to physically torture Alex, as he is not present in as much of a violent manner as seen in SH2. However, his actions of torture are very similar. In SH2, he tortures James by shoving his inner-demons into his face constantly (through the rape of the other creatures, the constant murder of a clone of his late wife). He does pursue him eventually, but it has been speculated that this comes from James's unwillingness to acknowledge what he did to his wife. Furthermore, it could come form him desiring to be punished somewhere in the back of his mind.
With Alex, PH is not an aggressor at all. But he DOES maim his father right before his eyes. Adam was Alex's hero in a sense, since he desired nothing more in life than to be loved openly by his father. PH not only gave Adam his punishment for not for fulfilling his end of the bargain with God, but also punished Alex for not opening his eyes just as he did with James.
I am not sure if PH is exactly Order-controlled or not, but I swing more to not. He seems to be part of the Order's mythos, which they have shown on numerous occasion, they can not control. Claudia and Walter both failed miserably in trying to control their religion. In the end, the whole mythos behind Silent Hill is either beyond human understanding, or simply an everlasting piece of us all. Alessa just happened to be the key to unlock Hell, and now it's running a muck and spilling its contents everywhere.

PH only kills one person, that you know of, in the whole game, Alex's father. who is pyramid head searching for, his targets? the three other families sacrificed their sons and daughters, like the gods demanded. is pyramid head trying to punish them? or just the family that failed to offer sacrifices, the Shepherds?
he also skewers that doc in the beginning.
