It is the exact same... WHAT?! I mean, usually they draw inspiration from movies and TV shows, but not shot-for-damn-shot. Sad.

It could've been worse. : /
Obviously ran out of ideas from the SH movie and used Jacob's Ladder.

More like Hostel. This game was basically just several movies thrown together w/ God of War controls and some horrible uninteresting memos. The Cult memos reminded me of The Wicker Man (remake), anyone else get that, especially w/ the "Mother" and "Daughter" groups.

Either way, the drill/torture part was so out of place I was more stunned then scared. It failed, miserably.

I don't like either of them. But if someone'll tell me that he likes SAW, then that's okay.
Hostel on the other hand was downright stupid and the scene in SHH is clearly based on it.

It's too bad, 'cause it was the thing that finished the game for me. That and the "action-packed, gun-blazing" police station scene.

I hate it when Saw and Hostel are compared! there is so much more to Saw than torture. (though the traps can be pretty cool)

Back to subject - SH has always been gory, eating fetuses, skinnless dead bodies, body parts etc. ! ok it may be over the top but what about the beginning of the game where you see many ppl clearly being tortured?

but yh I agree with Agent of God - action packed gun blazing was dog shit - this should never feature in SH.

I had no problem with the Police Station. It was perfect for the sake of pacing and it really wasn't "Action packed guns blazing". . . You'd run out of shotgun ammo immediately, you get 4 shots and way too many Schisms. You're forced into melee or just running.

That's putting it lightly. God of war's control's were more fluid than homecomings.
Movie wise, it was just the Silent Hill film's overall brutality, just retched up a notch.

They did, but they were implemented better and there was a huge difference in art direction, themes and atmosphere, and even tho the 1st four games were done by TS, each game felt different and had a unique ambiance and feel to them. Homecoming had it's moments(otherworld house level/helldesecent/scarlett level) and it's not a bad game at all, it's just that it's not a very good SH game.

The scene with the drill made Holloway seem like the shallow "dastardly villian".... it was so cliche` in how she revealed her "plans" to alex. I get that they were trying to explain the overall story in that segment, but at that point we already knew what was goin' on, and the whole scene was just too much "twirly mustachey" evil villiany theatrics.

Homecoming borrowed too much from the film. As clips said, the other games were implemented better.
I like Homecoming regardless, it's just the team that developed it got lazy a little bit, and made it obvious that they were doing so.

Seriously, they didn't copy the movie that much. I can almost count it on one hand. It was mostly just a few visuals.

Well, the first Saw had a lot more suspense and mystery to it than torture. The sequels, on the other hand, became all about the traps and upping the ante. That's why I stopped after 4. Also, torture porn is one of the most idiotic labels I've seen ever seen. If you seriously think that the majority of the audience members actually get off on the torture, you need to reconsider your status as a film critic! :x

See I am an Aussie too, and have never seen this 'censored' version that has been unwillingly forced apon our shores. As someone who refuses to settle for the big bad babysitter deciding what i, a fully grown and reasonably sane adult, am and am not exposed to in the media... my copy of the game was imported direct from the UK, in all its original R18+ gory glory lol. Even cost me $30 less than the price local game shops were asking for!

Unfortunately all this controversy in Australia surrounding such scenes totally ruined the shock factor for many of us fans here, including me, since we read/heard the details of the offending scenes within the media well before we had even played the game for the first time. Kinda knew what to expect then :(

I think i even googled the scenes on you tube in advance, just to see exactly what the classification boards were getting their knickers in a knot over. So by the time i got to them first hand, the shock factor was completely gone... i remember just thinking "oh HERE we go" when i recognised i was finally up to them.

Regardless of the government's opinion, and the lack of initial surprise/shock i experienced because of it, i just loved the drill part... the extent of the gore made me feel very uneasy, in fact that entire area had that effect on me (blood, stainless steel and torture devices everywhere, a crazy guy wielding a buzz saw, guys in hazard suits etc - just the stuff from my worst nightmares lol) but thats exactly the type of feeling i have come to expect from Silent Hill games, so i totally enjoyed it :p

Heaven knows i will be joining every other Aussie gamer out there in mutual celebration when our country *finally* passes and introduces an R18+ game rating.... so unbelievably long overdue :/

it's a good thing this isn't the other games, but a new one with new ideas. imagine that, kids are more exposed to gore and shit, and therefore need more brutal scenes to get them on edge.

I grew up on 'video nasties' and shlock horror, yet I was perfectly happy with the level of gore in SH without it resorting to ridiculous extremes. Generally, the most graphic and emotive horror is that which is left to the viewers imagination.

But then again, that's just my opinion and maybe if you'd read the rest of the thread instead of replying to a 4 year old post you'd get more out of this topic ;)
