This or Origins?
I'm going to gamestop later and I wanted to know whether to get Homecoming, Origins, or a few other survival horror games. From what I've seen of homecoming, I don't think it deserves the hate. Yeah, It may be all about action, but if I go in there expecting that, I think I'll be okay. However I did say that SH4 doesn't seem to deserve the hate before I played it, and I ended up hating that.

Origins is closer to the classic SH game feel. I'm not saying it's the better of the two, but it really depends on what kind of gaming experience you want. If you want something that feels like you're playing the first three games, go with Origins. If you want something that's challenging while also putting a spin on Silent Hill go with Homecoming.
One more soul to the call, for all, in silence...
Comes two more souls to the call, for all, and in time!
Three more more souls to the call, they fall...
Unknowing that four more souls to the call, won't be all, and you know it!

Depends on your taste... Both are bloody brilliant (probably my two favourite SH games), and once again I'm going to pretty much echo Aldo by saying that 0rigins is the more like SH1-3, complete with their dated survival horror flaws like camera and awkward combat whilst Homecoming is a little different, with more freedom of control and much, much better combat (though really tough enemies so you're still scared to encounter them).
0rigins' story is more classic SH - think of it as a cross between SH2 and 1, it has the Alessa/Cult stuff but also an exploration of your character's mind and history, whilst Homecoming is a little more unusual, with some modern shock horror elements in there too.
As Mephisto said, they're both marvels. Just one is a return to the SH series warts-and-all (0rigins) while the other is an attempt to put a fresh spin on it with better controls, camera, combat, etc. (Homecoming), just get whichever sounds like the most appealing to you.
If you're planning to do both, I'd probably say to go for 0rigins first just because after Homecoming it'd seem like a real step backwards having the strafelook camera system and fast combat taken away from you.

Where we're from, the birds sing a pretty song, and there's always music in the air.

I personally like Origins better. The first time I played it, I was a little disappointed, but subsequent playthroughs really made the game grow on me.
Homecoming had a few too many supporting characters (and a love interest? really?) to give the game that isolated atmosphere of quiet dread that I love about Silent Hill. That being said, the story is actually pretty great, despite the twist ending being almost insultingly predictable.
Yahtzee's video review pretty much sums up my opinion on Homecoming. While you're at it, check out his Silent Hill 2 review. I ♥ this guy.

I thought Origins story was executed and overall better than Homecoming's. Homecoming is longer than Origins, but more length doesn't mean better. I bought a used PS2 version of Origins off Ebay for 24 bucks shipped, I couldn't find it locally even at trade-in places(Gamestop, etc.) and many of the retainers are dropping or have droppeed the PS2 line. I personally like Origins better, it just felt more like a SH game than Homecoming.

Origins gets really old after a few playthroughs, but the accolades make the game super fun. Black Ops suit with Tesla Rifle. Beat that!
Homecoming is amazing as well, with the grungy design and awsome monsters. Unfortunately, you'll be mainly relying on combat weapons rather than guns.
Or just buy both...
