you notice that alex wakes up in a hospital. after josh died, im sure alex got sent away from home. therefore he never witness his father killing anything, unless it was prior to josjh's death

Well in that case helldescent, I don't think Alex would be thinking it's a schism he's cutting up seeing as the monsters and craziness didn't happen until the one event happened that put SH:H in motion. In the other world he sees a schism yeah but it was probably a deer back in the flashback or some other animal.

^Wrong. The first encounter with the Schism's are in the Police Station. Alex goes to his house way before that part.

wrong.
alex visits mother in beginning.
( skipping ahead a lil)
we encounter the first schism in the police station. so alex sees this monster before he returns back home to when the order kidnaps his mother. this is the part where he actually enters the hunting room and sees a schism on the butcher block.
thus, the image of the schism, is from alex's earlier encounter with them
