How do you see more than two people AGREEING with the theory? They're just saying it's well-written, or nice, or interesting/possible.

Agreed. If a theory makes you examine a belief that you've always just kind of accepted, then it's a good theory. You don't have to actually adopt it for your own.

I'm actually playing with the idea for a fic that has Angela survive her day in Silent Hill. She meets up with James later, and tells him how it happened (and NO, there's no romance between them). So obviously, I subscribe to the theory that she's real.

You know what you should do just because of this thread? Have James be disgusted with her, because her surviving the Abyss involved killing her mother, and James says some things that causes her to relapse. Then it turns out James is a manifestation of Angela's psyche and he never existed. Just to piss people off.

Not a bad thought... but I have a fic (of sorts) already written that will piss everyone off far more efficiently than that. Especially those who take their Silent Hill seriously.

I voted yes. While I do believe Angela, Eddie, and Laura are purposeful foils to James's character, I don't think he made them up during his visit.

That would push the number of people he created to four: a pole-dancer who looked like his wife, a self-destructive teenage girl, a psychopathic and overweight oaf, and an obstreperous eight-year-old. If nothing else, that would indicate that James has a very multifaceted personality...

I have plenty a sense of humor. That's why I don't think most of the things that come out of your mouth are funny.

Ziiiiiiiiiing.

Getting back on topic before this topic winds up with an X on it...

QUOTE: Well, everyone has a multifaceted persona. Lol Jung.
True, but it doesn't usually manifest itself quite so impressively. Unless a person has spectacular multiple-personality disorder. Which, I suppose, the preceding argumant suggests that he does.

Yes, you definitely do. Specifically on the idea of Archetypes, which is what everyone would be if they were creations of James, not alternate personalities.

Maria, for example, is probably James' Anima. Maybe.

So that's why she reminded me of that one summon from Final Fantasy X...*weak joke*

Kso, should I look up "Jung" in the public library? I've actually never heard of him/her/it before. xD

uh... yeah, about thses characters not being real, I believe that it's very interesting to think about because it does make sense, sort of. As for me, I like the idea but I believe they are real people. Also, Angela is my favorite character in the game & in my opinion, she serves a pretty big purpose. But that's just me. :)

Yeah, I suppose that's true. Silent Hill is a place with no rhyme or reason to it, and you never know if the things you encounter are real or just figments of your imagination. Especially the impossible physics of the prison and what lies below it.

That's not entirely true. Silent Hill DOES have rhyme and reason, it's just not the same that Reality uses.

i wish we had another sh game with a similar premise to compare with.

i had never thought about each character and their connection to the possible endings. maybe eddie leads james to the dog ending... :?

btw, i wonder what happens to poor laura when it's not the "leave" ending...

Well, she's in no direct danger, but she's alone in an empty town. Unless she can walk to a nearby town or somehow return to the "populated" town, I expect she'll probably get pretty hungry after awhile.
