Hello everyone and thanks for looking into this post, if you have.

Now, ive been wondering What is it whith laura, and her drawing cats, something symbolic?
Or does she just like cats? Could it be something like the cat's 7 or 9 lives?
If that's the case, anything to do with the 9 save points near the end?

Well maybe im looking too much into it.

And yes, i did search for a similar thread with No results.

Interesting theory, but personally I don't think that there's any symbolism related. Kids like to draw animals and I think that Laura just likes them. :)

Yeah that's what i thought, but james was actually able to examine it, hints?
Or well i really got no idea, but i feel there is something behind this.

I remember reading a theory about the cats that implied they were symbolic of her being outside of the SH we are familiar with. The theory tied in the joke ending with the Dog as being a counterpoint of the cat issue. More or less it said that since the 'god' of SH in 2 was a Dog, that the little girl was outside of it and this was represented with the cat. It also implied that the cat was a sort of protective marking, as the locations where it was drawn were free of enemies and most of the weirdness. I kind of liked the theory, even though one can dismiss the Dog ending rather readily as being non-canon. I never thought about a nine lives issue with the save points, but I suppose that fits too, since save games are a protection from death in the game.

I'm sure the cats mean something, but probably nothing huge in regards to the main point of the story. :)

Yes. Everything's Cuter With Kittens.

Now in all seriousness, that is an interesting coincidence, the 9 save points and the old saying about cats having 9 lives. I am fairly sure that there was no intended correlation between the two, though. Laura's just your average kitty-loving little girl.

Laura seemingly follows James everywhere he goes, even while he's jumping through holes, walking on walls and ceilings, falling into the abyss. The Cheshire Cat, similarly, follows Alice everywhere through Wonderland, even while she's jumping through holes, walking on walls and ceilings, falling into the abyss.

There certainly is a lot of mythology/folklore surrounding cats themselves (i.e. Egyptian mythos of cats, the fabled "unlucky" black cat, the cultural significance of cats and witches in tandem, etc).

To the Norse, cats symbolized Freyja (meaning Lady), the goddess of magic (specifically Seidh, akin to shamanism and involving trance). The day of the week Friday is named after her. Friday the 13th?

Digging pretty deep here, and I doubt the actual or intended significance was meant to be this far reaching.

I'm surprised this one hasn't been brought up yet, as it's probably the most obvious connection.

Cats have very good vision in what we see as complete darkness. Laura is unable to see any of the horrors that unfold for James.

Thus, cats can represent Laura's "Innocence", because she has 'very good vision in the darkness'. Simple, but very clever.

All of these other examples could easily apply as well, but I think this is the strongest one, because it applies the most to her character and her purpose in the story.

Could simply imply that she loves cats. An insight into her personality and character.

Maybe its Egyptian Symbolism here. IDK just throwing it out there ^.^

In Egypt I believe cats ward off evil spirits or something of the sort.

Lets see. Laura carried no "burden" as eddie angela and james did. So maybe the cat represents what Axel_98 said. Cats were worshipped in ancient egypt as symbols of purity among other things. Therefore concluding that Laura was " pure''.
