My friends and I started to speculate after the Angela boss. We began catching on that everyone had killed someone, and the graveyard room with everyone's names sort of confirmed our suspicions. Yet I still had my doubts. James seemed kind of meek, definitely not the murderer type. The video tape was still a big shock.
See you in hell, cupcake.

I knew he killed his wife after he met Maria. She did mention he might hate his wife and I thought she looked like his wife, so there had to be a reason for that. Some form of Mary was created to remind James what he did.

I always had a feeling because James was acting weird. He also always talked about looking for his dead wife and I thought "He must be insane, or he must've killed her." Imagine my 'surprise' when I found out I was right.

(coughs)......Have you played the game? Not trying to be rude, butSquarehead wrote:Wait, i thought Mary died of a disease?

it's kind of the main plot point of the game and it's why you're in Silent Hill. The letter James "got" is just a manifestation of his psyche.

Re: when did you realize... *possible spoilers*
Honestly, the only reason I didn't figure it out was because I had never experienced a narrative like this in a game before. At least, nothing this powerful in a horror title. The only other game I had played with such an unexpectedly terrific story was killer7. Well, and MGS3, but I digress. Most all games I had played had been very straight forward with their stories, like a disney movie or something.
I just wasn't expecting any foul play, and I'm really glad. I had zero knowledge about the game before I had ever played it aside from "that pyramid head guy is in it." Otherwise, it would be just like all the Shyamalan movies after the sixth sense came out; everyone's trying to figure out "what's gonna happen at the end" instead of just watching the movie.

I played the game by myself, without walkthroughs, and I had not yet discovered my first Silent Hill community.
So, I had a few suspicions, but I did not predict that particular twist.

After closing the PS2 and re-playing the videotape part, to understand what it actually depicted.

When I killed Eddie, it dawned on me that it could be possible that James was responsible.

I knew something was up... but, honestly, I didn't figure it was James until the videotape. Then I started thinking... "oh dear, what if she was fresh in the trunk at the beginning of the game?" I doubt he was still in such a fragile mental state if she actually died so long ago, I always figured it was pretty much right before the game started or a day or two perhaps.
Another frequency perpetuated into context, trapped in the eternal paradox.

A year before it came out. I'm sure that decreased what could have been the emotional intensity tenfold for me.
