Trick or Treat gameshow
I'm probably going to be accused of over analyzing, but what IS the deal with the "trick or treat" gameshow? who on earth was the host of it? and why did James become a contestant? and who planted that box there?
there's something about the gameshow that really creeps me out, like when the host talks about Walter's murders

Is this a joke thread, or are you being serious.
It was kinda hard to tell...
either way, I've got a few thoughts about it.

Re: Trick or Treat gameshow
I don't think anyone truly had anything to do with the game show or the box being there. I think it was all conjured up by the town (or James's imagination, which, while most things in SH2 are as such, it would still be freaky ). Honestly, I consider that whole thing to be an "optional mission" of sorts - you could go to the box and try to get all the stuff inside (which is mostly ammo and health, if memory serves me right), or ignore it.
Re: Trick or Treat gameshow
If we read too much into it: it could be something related to the town's power and not James' psych. Afterall, he was confused after the show ended. He didn't knew why it started or etc. But there's the whole "deep thoughts" thing. . .
If we don't read too much into it: Shut up! "Team Silent" just placed it in the game so we could have some fun!!

I liked it, brought a little break and flavor to a big enough segment of the game. Helped break it up instead of being 1 big trawl through the hospital.

Wasn't the host the same person who did the Borley Haunted Mansion voice?

They don't sound much alike.
Anyway, it was just some random manifestation. Might even be a cross-over with someone else's thoughts, like when Maria met Ernest.

perhaps it was a manifestation related to a gameshow host that entered or lived in the town?AuraTwilight wrote:They don't sound much alike.

Re: Trick or Treat gameshow
Borley's Haunted Mansion always reminded me of Trick or Treat.
It was the same mildly intimidating circus-like atmosphere, in which the "announcers" seemed aware of what was happening.
Think of the wording that was used in both cases..."We'd like you to stay.." "But if you looooose...."
It was like the outside looking in.
Fucking creepy.
Homecoming would've been better if it had a scene like that in there.

Where?either way, I've got a few thoughts about it.
It is not something I ever factor into the game as serious. Except for the information it gives about Walter Sullivan, I have only considered it as a complement to a single gameplay device.

Must've accidentally hit delete when I had the rest of the text highlighted to italicize it.
It's a cutesy and wonderfully put together part of the game, but I think with all of the over analyzing that goes on with other aspects of the games, that this is definitely worth looking at too.
If you wanted to use game mechanics to explain it, it could be the humor-to-relieve-the-tension part of Jame's psychology. So, it was Jame's own episode of MASH in the middle of Silent Hill. Yay.
Yeah, however I worded that the first time made a lot more sense. That sux.....

Its just a funny thing konami put into the game. Plus it gives some backstory info.
Thats pretty much it.

It's a very forgettable part of the game for me. In fact, it took me a while to understand what the thread was talking about.
I think it's just there to kind of make the player feel a little disoriented in a way.

Re: Trick or Treat gameshow
I guess it was the town trying to F*** with james by taunting him like that. the fact that the announcer directly addresses james makes me believe it was a sort of message from the spirits of silent hill warning him of the dangers he will face ahead....'get the ammo and health.stay safe or stay dead!'

Re: Trick or Treat gameshow
This part of the game freaked me out, just a tad.
Usually in an SH game everything has a deeper meaning behind it, I also agree that the voice sounds like the dude from the Borley Haunted Mansion; maybe that could be one of the ways SH2 and SH3 are connected? I definitely think it'd be worth looking into. I'm going to look around for a few theories anyway :3

Re: Trick or Treat gameshow
It felt more like a side mission....i didn't look into it anymore than that. The info on walter sullivan was good, but i see over-analyzing rearing it's ugly head here...i just think konami put that little segment in there for fun....there's no deep psychological theories goin' on there...
Re: Trick or Treat gameshow
^ I've looked around a little and I think you're most probably right, although we shouldn't give up on the idea that it could be something deeper. Right now it's looking like the average SH puzzle with a little more spice.
Re: Trick or Treat gameshow
It's one of my favorite moments of the series, but other than that...
It's probably just a manifestation though; combining several irrelevant information James collected around the town (by the trash newspaper, by his map etc.) and adapting them into a...well...let's face it...elevator radio show-.-

^ Pretty much, unfortunately. Ahh well, was worth looking into I suppose.
Re: Trick or Treat gameshow
I get what your asking, and why your asking. I wish there was something more to that little gameshow. It'd be interesting if the announcer was someone in particular, or if we saw the box again in another game.
You know, if they were to make Angela's version of silent hill, I want that exact same game show it in, only tailored to her psychosis.
