PH: Why weapon change?

I used the Search function but Im 100% sure this question was asked before so it would be nice if you can send me the link

I want to know why PH changed his weapon from sword to spear.

And another thing, when the 2 PHs kill Maria, she is bend on something similiar to a bed because to remind James on Mary death?

@Aura: PH was already with the spear by the time the hospital part was near it's end. His knife is only found in the labyrinth. Clearly he didn't changed the weapon because James took it.

Or maybe the PH from Brookhaven's chase is the #2 since one appears at the top of the building with the knife. Or maybe it's the same RPT since... GAH! *head explodes*
