Why did my playtime suddenly extend?

I was playing Silent Hill 2, I was heading for the Silent Hill Historical Society and saved there, after that I went to Texxon Gas Station to get the Book of Lost Memories and the Steel Pipe because I forgot to get them. When I get back to the Historical Society and save, my playtime goes from 4 hours to 20. What the hell happened? Is it some sort of glitch or an easter-egg? I couldn't find this anywhere so sorry if this has already been asked.
