James got a letter. From a dead person. Oh dear.

Tell that to him.

>when you enter the room where Maria lies down on the bed.
You hear something breathing. Doesn't mean its Maria. Did you fail to realize that Maria shows up in the [otherside] before James goes into the basement's basement? Maria most likely remained supine until something happened: the [otherside] made its appearance. She stands up, went looking for James. She even saw the [otherside], and was stuck running around the place--she's breathless when she finally finds him--, avoiding monsters, surviving. If she were simply in the Unreality, she wouldn't encounter anything more. She says it herself: I was almost killed back there!...I’ve never been so scared in my whole life!

Secondly: the pills on the table. The shift to the [otherside] didn't take the thirty seconds it took James to be carted from the Examination Room to the Garden; he's been knocked out for awhile. The pills are proof of that--even James comments on them.

(I bought them a little while ago, and have received some donations. ;* Plus I just can't shut the hell up, heh)

"Those three are the three layers I spoke of, but I will correct what I call them in future posts."

Ahh, all right then. I don't know if it was a matter of you wording it differently, or a misunderstanding on my behalf because I thought you were talking about something else. *shrug* You don't have to say it how I do if you don't want to, but I just find that it's one of the easier ways to word the layers..

It's just that I adressed the three layers as Reality, Unreality and The otherworld before... to be more acurate on the meaning of the words, Reality and unreality are two opposite sides. These are the main "universes", while there still seem to be sublayers like... the otherworld. (does it exist other layers in reality? Maybe dreams is that :) )

I just found your post to be a little more pedagogical then others.
So it opened my eyes rather than closing them on the obvious truth...
...there is no spoon.

^ I think that was a vision relating to Mary and her own hospitalization. No one, per se, moved James at all. After the shift to the other world, he was moved by "the town" or the fact that reality around him was altering and reshaping itself, to the "garden" outside.

Yeah, I always wondered about that but just assumed that it was just an excuse for Team Silent to throw in some more Jacob's Ladder references.

Maybe he moved himself... maybe he didn't move at all, but the world around him moved with him standing in the middle... but as krissy said, it is most likely the town.

.....or maybe PH (giggle)

I'm fairly sure James hearing Mary's voice has something to do with it.

I don't think they threw that in for dramatic effect alone...

hell, nothing in these games is just 'thrown in'...

Yes, beacuse it's a memory of Mary, out of Mary's POV.

There may be more than just 3 layers, or at least it seems like there is subcatagories sometimes.

Maybe Ernest was James's doctor, and not Mary's (which doesn't seem to make much sense anyways) at one point. Wasn't there a mix up with the English translation, like Joseph was actually supposed to be James (assuming he is the director)?

Where did you hear that? The only translation mess up that comes to mind in association with the hospital is the diary on the roof.

The male patients at Brookhaven correlate and are similar to James, but none were actually James.

(why the hell are my posts getting deleted? ) :<

Once again... I go to get the health drink, and there's a screen blocking me. When I come back, the health drink isn't there, and the game plays some pretty intense music. It just... seems like there would be more than just a health drink. But whatever...

How do I get the health drink, anyways? Can you get it?

What's there to explain? The original concept in Silent Hill 2 was that Joseph Barkin was to be similarly related to James as Maria is to Mary. That's it. Notice how Joseph is the most prominent character at Brookhaven Hospital? Team Silent left his backstory--such that he also shifts between the [otherside], on account of his own guilt--laying round the hospital, but removed the initial concept & reasoning for his being there.

so Jospeh Barkin was to be James' townly manifest...I suppose they felt Pyramid Head already played that role.

"Whats there to explain?" Probably some sources for this, because even if we know that Joseph saw the otherworld and such, Angela does exaclyt the same. If she, as you say, sees Silent Hill as a house, then, that is her otherworld. The form of the journey everyone does, is the same, but differs in the parts of how they look. Because of the different things that led to their guilt.
I don't see why Joseph in that way is any different from the others...
