He was indeed, and he wasn't very happy when James 'disturbed' their vile act! I think it is some kind of sexual reference as none of the characters are 'juicy'!

Personally I feel that the shininess is analogous to new born babies.

Same here, or maybe because they are all slimy, will we ever know?

Chill, lads. It just means they're made of bare flesh. Nothin' else. Nothin' else.

It's shiny because the creatures are disgusting, repusive beings covered in a slimy sort of coating. The Maniquens are an exception, it would seem. They are actualy made of plastic. The other beings seem to be covered in that film.

It also seems like a way to show off the 'Next-Gen' graphics. And it worked, distinctly as I remember.

going back the "fetish" aspect of the creatures, you can easily see the influence this sort of body balloon might have had on the lying figures. yes, they were inspired by the designer seeing a cowroker walking with his hands in his jacket pockets (or whatever exactly he said in the making of video). but look at the picture below and you can definitely see how it could have also gotten some influence from the bondage world.

Just because mannequins are plastic or ceramic in real life doesn't mean theyre plastic in SH. I think they're made of flesh, just as the others.

I do not know myself, actualy. Looking at them, there is a decidedly 'plastic' look to them.

Oh well. It's all in the eye of the observer, anyway.

I seem to recall the designers mentioning, in the same video where they mention the design for the lying figure coming from the coworker "grooving" to his walkman, that they were supposed to be kind of plasticky. Not in so many words, but yeah. In the making of features of the movie, as well, "...they're not quite flesh, they're not quite plastic..." Yes, I know the film is not the same as the games, but they made sure to at least keep the designs as true to the initial concepts as possible, hence why they were allowed by Konami to do it.

And "juicy," Caffreys84, means fleshy, oozing and disgusting- something you certainly wouldn't want to touch with your bare hands. Yeah, I think that's a fair description...

I think its more of the design aspect of the game and I concur with watchdog on the PH and Mannequin scene.

I also agree that the shininess somewhat imbues sexuality in those monsters.

Her skirt is "shiny". Not the rest of the model.

I´ll emphasis what I said before, it has some sexual meaning behind it. Sort of sado-maso clothing in them also.

Alot of models have really shiny or not shiny at all, doesn't seem to be much in between the shininess even shows up in pitch black it does give it a realism look to it, I don't think it relates to anything.

agreed about it helping them show up in the dark better, but that may have been just an added bonus. i think the mannequins have that plastic look because they're supposed to BE plastic. and i think with the lying figures, it looks like a layer of slime over their bodies, like a toad or something like that. plus, it'd help them slither along the ground. the nurses have that shiny look, to, but not on their clothes. when they were doing the movie there was a comment by the effects guy that christophe wanted the monsters to look plastic, like dolls. if these are all figments of james' imagination or pulled from his mind - whatever - then it could be pulling from the sexual stuff that he's creating them with - you know what i mean, how all the monsters are somewhat sexual in nature - and they have a doll-look, like a blow up doll, or some sort of inanimate mannequin-esque quality for how he views women. or even that they have a corpse-like quality. originally the lying figures had thigh-high boots on that looked like pvc, so that might have been something the creators added. so i think the "wet look" is a pretty good assumption.

I agree....
and that and I think they wanted the mannequins because Mary had become like a lifeless doll to james
