Is it me or do you have to kill more monsters in this one?

I just got out of the apartment leading to the Theatre and I have to say, I was nervous to play this game because people claim it's the hardest. It's not. There are way more monsters, but like all the other games, you can avoid them. I've had my health flashing red a few times, but so far have yet to die.

Maybe I'm crazy, or maybe I'm just handy with the PSP controls - but this was the easiest game in the series for me so far. I agree with the above poster, enemies are very easy to avoid and you find health items everywhere if you search every room and corner. I only died once on my first playthrough, in the Theatre by the Ariels.

I guess it's been a while since I played SH1 as a child. . .

AGREED. This is def the most challenging. I fear that with every door I open, there's going to be 3250825098 monsters in the area getting ready to ambush me :< I'm stuck at the sanitarium and I'm finding it annoying.

I think there is a slight increase in the number of monsters compared to past games, but not by much. This one is definately more challenging. Conserve your bullets like usual and you should be fine. The monsters do get harder as you progress. Some monsters will necessitate you having to use ammo. Also there's a scarcity of health items so be careful not to use them all up! And I recommend running past monsters on the streets while you can and avoid confronting the large ones without a rifle. I found tossing large items to be difficult as they took some time to throw and a monster could get you unless you timed it right. They're nice one hit kills though but will only be useful on the slower, less aggressive monsters... The twobacks are definately the most deadly so oftentimes you'd want to use the best gun possible. The more annoying 'turkey' ones if you can't avoid them ought to be taken out with a couple of shotgun shells. And as an added strategy to conserve ammo, once they're down, run up to them and perform the finishing blow with a melee weapon instead.

In the grand scheme of things I still think Silent Hill 4 was the most challenging game due to unkillable ghosts and having to escort Eileen. But 0rigins made me way more paranoid due to the reduced number of health items.

Personally, I find the Ghostd of SH4 much more annoying than the monsters of this game.

These ones just have the distinct annoyance of the grapple fighting style. Ifyou had to grapple with the ghosts... Hoo boy, I don't think I ever would have finished SH4.

I agree there are so many monsters and they are aggressive.
Travis tired quickly if i try to run past in streets. My health is red quite often and no healthdrink...

This is because they respawn. It says in the manual.
I notice this like crazy with the straightjackets in the sanitarium area.

So, after owning SH:0 for some time I decided to get back into it. (I initially stopped in the Sanitarium because it was tedious...) And I will definitely concur that there are more monsters in this game than previous titles. And it does have a lot to do with the respawning thing. In past games, you could almost always count on a hallway staying cleared if you killed everything in it, but now you can not be so sure.

It seems like they increased the number of enemies to go along with the ridiculous amount of weapons they give you in this game. Sure they break, but I think that it would be fairly possible to kill almost everything you came across and still have something left to swing at the next enemy.

But this doesn't really bother me so much, nor does the amount of enemies in the game. What kind of does irk me is the strength of the enemies when you try to fight them. Sure, they all have patterns and what not, but I find that if there is more than one enemy in a close vicinity and you try to kill them with anything other than a gun, you are going to get hurt. And what's worse about that is, it doesn't take much damage to kill you in this game either. I admit I'm not the best with the PSP controls, but it seems that despite Travis being a "tough guy" he can't take as much damage as, say, Heather could. So really it's all some big sick joke by the developers. Give you tons of weapons, offset by loads of enemies, and buff their strength and ability to swarm you to almost unprecedented levels for the series. I'm not saying you couldn't get swarmed in the other games...it just seems much more likely in this one.

Though, with that all said...I find as long as I have my flashlight off in buildings that I almost never get attacked/hit anyway...so that kind of makes all the previous issues with enemies moot I suppose.

Why do you think I had like 20 TV sets in Trevor's pocket?

I'm definant that the respawning thing is pretty crucial to the whole game, since it is so short. They need to jam alot of monsters in it to give it the oomph that it needed.

But the game isn't that short as to they have to jam alot of monsters in it to be good.

I know, but I think they felt that they had to for some reason.

There are many more spawning points in Origins than in other titles I believe. You leave the area for ten seconds and the monster you have just killed will be replaced.

The lack of firearms at the beginning of the game could also make the game harder somewhat.
