well i think that since we already in the silent hill universe believe that there are psychics and obviously the supernatural but any sort of demon is a manifestation
i personally would like to believe that there was a flauros demon and a "god" of sorts and that the threat was a little more then simply a manifestation
No, but it pretty much outright proves there's no evidence of the Flauros actually existing, (regardless of whether or not it does). If you're willing to accept that everything else in the series is a manifestation, and yet has more outward reality than this Flauros demon (it appears in the dream, instead of just in the physical Otherworld), then you have to make a non-logical sort of special pleading for the Demon's real existence that has no basis in evidence or logic.

The manifestations have real power thanks to the effects of Silent Hill's mystical properties on the combined belief of the cultists. Ergo, if the cultists believe strongly enough that the flauros is capable of splitting a soul then, at least within the area of the towns influence, it is.
(I think.)
Too cold to start a fire
I'm burning diesel, burning dinosaur bones
I'll take the river down to still water
And ride a pack of dogs
What Stopped Clock said. That, and it's sort of implied that the Flauros artifact has a part of Alessa's power sealed in it. She....kind of needs that back, y'know.

Just because it's a manifestation doesn't diminish the threat. God isn't like Maria, it can be perceived by others. The cult believes God has power, it manifests with power.
God is a manifestation too. It doesn't make it any less dangerous, because it's the God of the Otherworld once it's properly born. It's harmless to people in the real world, right? Because it can't enter there and such...
But what if it pulled all of humanity into the Otherworld, and that became our reality?

The way Claudia was talking in the third game, I had assumed that this was the plan. It's the only way to bring "paradise" everywhere, isn't it?
(I tired to keep up with this conversation for a while and I got lost. This was the first line that I could contribute to so far. I need to play 0 more.)

The Flauros may be the manifestation of Alessa's vision of "a demon trapped in a cage",or Travis' or the cultists vision of God.. but it's always a manifestation.

perfectly said.
Its like if youre afraid of dogs, and you began seeing mosntrous dogs chasing you down the street, they are still real to you.
It makes it more personal rather than where everyone sees exactly what you do.
