I'm into...I'll say the "third stage" for a possible spoiler's sake, and I don't think I've experienced this yet, maybe I'm one of the lucky ones.

simply exit the game, turn off your psp and then start it back up again

it fixed it for me....

the glitch happens to me when i'm outside, in the town, but only when monsters show up... like the sound system can't handle playing all of the noises, or something. i can still hear the ambience, but not footsteps or other sound effects. it's not a big issue, although it makes it much harder to avoid being attacked since you can't hear things coming up behind you.
no longer active. thanks for the memories.

You can't exchange it for another copy?

It happens to me after standbys. Don't know why. The town usually goes mute.

Oh, yeah. Like that sign out there. Figuring that the people in this town would be quiet.

Of course, we all know its the opposite when Akira Yamaoka is in the studio.

I think that is because of the size of the town itself and its size on the disk. This always happens on GTA. Sometimes you get to certain points of the town where you gotta stop and let the system buffer the surroundings.

On PS2 the music occasionally runs out. Which can be a relief cause the soundtrack of this games does seem to grate on me after a while. Also there are some retrigger loop glitches here and there, like when you go in from the title menu screen.
