Wow. My first Silent Hill game that I didn't even get "lost". Everything seemed explained straight-forwardly.

I want to compare this to another prequel in a series with a great storyline: Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. By far, it had the simplest story, but the twists and turns were still there.

But SH Origins never had any knots untwirled.

I just wanted to see if some of you feel the same way.

As a game that was making its break on a new console (an awesome console, I might add), I think it was a safe play and few of us are disappointed. I wouldn't even call it "simple" for those that never played an SH game before.

For me, "Yes, but it's just fine."

Yes but it's just fine.

I understand why they made it "simpler", remember they're bringing it out on PSP which is a new format for the series and people who haven't played any Silent Hill games before will be playing it, it's a new audience. That's probably why they made it simpler, and not as hard/complicated as the ones on other platforms.

I enjoyed it regardless. Some people evaluate games, movies, songs, etc. too much therefore it's less things they enjoy. I love alot of movies, games etc. that alot of other people don't or find stupid or written wrongly because I don't knit pick everything wrong with it. I take it for what it is and if I like it, then I like it.

I don't think it was that simple. There's still parts of it being debated to death, and it still has about the same level of symbolic content.

Everyone always gets in a tizzy because it isn't SH2. And any attempt to make something similar to SH2 is immediately met with fandom wank and backlash. Lose/lose situation.

I'm not directing this at you, OP, just the mindset more militant people have regarding Origins and how "poor" it is.

I don't know how it can be considered poor by anyone who has played it. Regardless of if it was "simpler" or not I still think the story is really well thought out like all the other titles in the series.

I agree, the storyline wasn't as deep as part 2's.. but it was still a decent story.. and a believable story at that. I loved the main character, because actually he was more an everyday dude than any of the other characters. I'm planning on buying the ps2 version sometime tomorrow maybe. ;)

Simple, vague, oh well. True silent hill fans would be satisfied with a guy running around streets filled with monsters as long as it says silent hill on the case. I know I would.

I wish it had more story to it, and more cutscenes, but ya have to keep in mind it's a psp/psp port game. There is only so much they can put in the game. But def wish it had more depth.

I don't think I would be satisfied with an RE-style SH game. The feel isn't the same at all. But maybe simplistic stories in some games make us appreciate the convoluted ones more.

Umm, no. You are apparently not a true SH fan then. SH fans want depth, story, emotion. Not House of The Dead.

I guess the best example I can give is a reference to Marilyn Manson fans. Alot of so called "fans" dont like the new music because it's not the old music. Makes no sense. Tru fans move with the transitions no matter what. I guess only monsters roaming the streets was a little extreme of an example but you get my point.

No, that's not fandom when you just lap up anything with the label. Fans are attracted to things for whatever it is that thing has that's unique, such as a style of music, or plot depth, or an art form, or whatever. If those are abandoned, the very thing the fans were drawn to is gone.

You can write Silent Hill on it as much as you want, but if they make a game where Silent Hill monsters appear in the normal world and start attacking people Resident Evil style, none of the true fans will like it.

Duh, I'm the only one who voted the maybe thing?

I think the story was ok, I just wish they would have told us/explained a bit more about the whole Travis-Demon and Mrs.Grady stuff.

Considering the limitations on the console they were making it for, I think it was a pretty good start. I agree with EileenGalvin, but I still enjoyed it.

Umm...you might not but I damn sure would. I'm an RE fan also and If they made an RE style SH that would be amazing. Just my opinion though.

I'd probably be a bit disappointed if there was a Silent Hill game that was too close to a Resident Evil. RE is great for a zombie-slasher game, but I really like Silent Hill because it's so different from all the monster-killing horror games.

But then again, everyone's entitled their opinion, so I'm not saying you're wrong Apoc.

Well, perhaps you would, but you're in the minority. Do you atleast see the point I'm trying to make? An RE-style Silent Hill wouldn't be Silent Hill. (which technically exists, go play the crappy Arcade game.)
