So Origins was supposed to explain the mysteries...
I glanced over the case for Silent Hill Origins last night, and I noticed a couple times on the back the game is advertised to explain the mysteries, etc. etc., surrounding the town.
And after playing the game, I haven't really learned anything all that new. Sure, it explains the backstory of Silent Hill 1, but that's about it. The town itself has such a rich backstory to it that wasn't even touched. Hell, you learn more about the town's history from SH2 than any other game.
I guess I was hoping to learn more about the history, and not just the precursor events to SH1. Of all the mysteries of Silent Hill, the cult interest me the least. I guess because it's such a damn cliche. It's always either a cult or ancient sacred indian burial ground blah blah blah; which Silent Hill has both.
So was anyone else expecting more of an actual origins story, than what we got? Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy Silent Hill Origins, with the exception of the Spinal Tap demon at the end. I was just hoping for more clues and history.

I definitely consider the title misleading in that its origins are basically just the precursor of Alessa's tale with some weird side story of a messed up trucker dude thrown in for some mysterious reason. I think this is an interesting topic and a good question to pose--what HAVE we learned about the story now that Origins has been released?
All I can think of is that Lisa and Kaufmann were bumping uglies while high, some weird nonsense went down with Alessa, the Flauros and the creation(?) of Cheryl, and that Dahila didn't do a good job of running away from the scene of the crime--nor did she have much of a fashion sense back then, either.

Agreed, the game pretty much just makes things we've been 95% sure about already, a 100% fact.Krist. wrote:All I can think of is that Lisa and Kaufmann were bumping uglies while high, some weird nonsense went down with Alessa, the Flauros and the creation(?) of Cheryl, and that Dahila didn't do a good job of running away from the scene of the crime--nor did she have much of a fashion sense back then, either.
"That town. That God forsaken town. It just, keeps, calling me back..."
Well that and the fact that when Travis, puts a certain thing together towards the end. All hell broke lose, so it could be that Origins is telling the tale of just how the town itself became cursed to those with guilty conscious.
It's true, this game didnt really explain how the town itself got it's power.. but it does explain how mind control and delusions became the norm for anyone trapped in Silent hill.
But I agree also, it was pretty much just about Alessa and the cult. But it did show how Alessa was burned by her own mother, and how her soul split into two. I think a better title for this game should've been "Silent Hill The beginning"

I think the game was sopposed to make you focus on Travis, and come to your own conclusions about him. While i do agree that the story also was to show Silent Hills history and things relating to the cult and Alessa, I think that stands as the secondary story here, but somewhere in the end they all intertwine. Silent Hill truly is a modern work of art for the gaming world. In a way, I guess you could say it has just about as much symbolism and deep psychological roots as Neon Genesis Evangelion! .....actually, no shock there.

The town ALWAYS had that power, before Alessa was even born. And it's a sacred power, not a curse.Well that and the fact that when Travis, puts a certain thing together towards the end. What? Mind Control? It's true, this game didnt really explain how the town itself got it's power.. but it does explain how mind control and delusions became the norm for anyone trapped in Silent hill.
Well that's an ignorant statement if I've ever seen one.In a way, I guess you could say it has just about as much symbolism and deep psychological roots as Neon Genesis Evangelion!
But yea, to the OP: Did you really expect Origins to explain the mysteries? In THIS series of all things? Puhlease, I held no pretense of hoping to learn anything exciting.

I was Kidding, was wondering if anyone would correct me, good job Aura! Evangelion is way more difficult to fully understand then Silent Hill. And just to let you know, Im a seasoned Eva fan, so I know what I'm talking about. I soppose you're going to correct me on using the word "and" at the beginning of a sentence next??? lol jk.

I didn't expect it, because I never paid any attention to what was advertised on the back of the box. As soon as I got it, I opened it up and started playing. It wasn't until two days ago that I actually looked and noticed. Go take a look at my original post, I say it right in there.AuraTwilight wrote:The town ALWAYS had that power, before Alessa was even born. And of course, I don't expect every mystery to be solved. I pointed out that calling the game "origins" was a bit of a stretch, and lamented on how with a name like that, I would've liked for at least some more clues as to the history, than simply the backstory of the cult.
And speaking of my original post, I said that Silent Hill was the site of an ancient Indian burial ground. Correction: the Indians simply believed the land to be sacred. So there's at least a bit of a deviation from the usual "This place was made on an ancient burial ground! Ahh, ghosts!"

Lol @ Dahlia's lack of fashion sense comment.

No, I was being ironic. If an Endings game came out to explain how the great story about Silent hill ends.. I would be quite pissed off (Im not talking about your Chronicles of Heather-game, cause that would actually be something! )AuraTwilight wrote:...The chronicles of Heather manipulating a gas pumper to...get her fast food from the Happy Burger so she can use it's greasy power to repel demons?

Something that had bugged me about the ending. i had played through the game and i got the kinda cheerful (as cheerful as silent hill gets ) ending in which travis returns calmly to his truck and drives off after having what i can only discribe as a "moment" in his mirror with alessa in which he seems happy and proud of what has happend of the course of his whole adventure. knowing all he has done is made sure that this evil (alessa) has gotten exactly what she had wanted the whole time. To me, travis's glee of the situation makes me think that either 1, he has been corrupted in a way, but willingly so knowing full well the consiquences of his actions. this is the confusing part for me as, yea, the game doesnt exactly explain much about the towns history and coming of evil as much as travis's own plight or possibly we are supposeto make a connection directly between travis's problems and how corrupted the town is. which leads to 2, i could just be completely overthinking the whole situation and driving myself mad trying to figure it out ...help
