Idk, when I first played the game I couldn't quite get a good look at it so I really didn't know what it was or what it meant. It wasn't until my 2nd time threw when I shined my flashlight on it, and realized what it truly was. My eyes got very wide and I quickly got up and shut of the game. The nurses of SH1 and their sexual moans had the same effect on me...

I was more affected by hearing the panting from the Rose Suite, and then realizing who made it.

But that wasn't sexual. It's only sexual if you want it to be.

Srsly, have you... heard a woman moaning from sexual intercourse? That wasn't in porn? O_o Because the nurses in SH1 don't really sound anything like it. They sound like zombified women trying to stab you in the face, heh.

Awwwwww don't be like that. Your a highly respected SHH member. Someone hasn't been saying mean things have they?

Why I think it's nice to have people who don't go on like they're worlds leading authority on tha Silent Hizzle. A fresh perspective is good. Besides, you're supposed to get grossed out and scared, right?

Thanks Breaka!
I've never gotten a good look at them upclose and was grossed out that it does actually look so graphic. I guess that "This game is considered to have cruel and violent images" message isn't there for nothing. Lol.
I just don't like feeling that I have to say something in an exact way that won't sound babyish or anything. That's just who I am and i'm not planning on changing for anything.

I don't act like that. Fresh perspectives are fine, but the wording in particular just struck me as really valley girl / childish / a reaction on par with OMG PH IS WRAPPING TEH MANIKINS!1 which... again. Childish.

I'm not suggesting that I don't get squicked by things in the games because I definitely do, and I don't think there's anything wrong with being grossed out because again... SH is a squicky game. But the whole "EWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!" bit to something that really isn't that bad in the first place makes me think one should hold of on the games if you can't handle some of the 'easiest' to take "subtext" monsters. I'm not going to apologize for feeling that way, either, though I don't mean to be rude.
I'm not dead yet, dammit.

I wouldn't expect an apology, Krist. I thought it was a little childish to saw "ewwwwwww" about the Two Backs. I mean no offense AngelofRoom302, but they games are set at a certain level, and is you are one of the people, you know the type that play with the lights on, you are going to be seen as one of the "Blissfully ignorant". And it is not a bad thing or a fault. I had much the same reaction, as Krist can attest to, that you do when I first came on here. I had an "ewwwwwww" post when I learned that the "rape" seen was more then PH just strangeling the maniquins. To my eyes, it was that and no more, and when I saw the term "rape" being thrown around, I as appauld. Over time though, of playing the games and growing up, you become desensitized to that sort of thing.

So don't take it as a personal attack, AngelofRoom 302, most of us call it like it is.

Just because of that, I don't think I should be told to not play silent hill.

Then why are you playing SH? It's developed and MEANT to scare you. It's a horror game. If it's not scary or even disgust you, then there's no reason to play it. It's much like putting on a silent movie and not watching it. There's no point in playing the game then. But you just can't tell someone to not play a game if they get scared by it.

In my opinion, the sexuality about the Twobacks isn’t as obvious as some are suggesting. If the two creatures were facing each other, I’d see a stronger case. There are some out of place bulbs and hints of appendages going in various directions, but nothing definitive. One creature riding on another’s back—nothing inherently sexual about that.
Krist. wrote:I don't act like that.
Of course you don’t. Nobody around here acts like that. What absurdity!

People, just because your better humane sensibilities have been dulled by years of exposure to horrible, disgusting things in various media doesn’t mean you should stick up your nose at those who still possess a soul.

The Twobacks, like almost every other monster in Silent Hill, are somewhat based on perception. Given notes and the fact that they appear in the hotel, I would imagine the Twobacks are memories from Travis witnessing couples, likely his father and prostitutes, having sex. Would a childhood memory of such really be so accurate? Is it not possible that to a child it would look like they were flailing around with limbs going every which way? And I really hate to be crass, but there is more sexual positions than those in which the couple face each other.

I honestly don't mean to offend anyone, but what is exactly people are arguing about here? All that I can gather from what Krist said is that she thinks people should keep a mature attitude when playing such a mature game... Sometimes I come in here and I honestly don't get it.

Either way, to those of you who say that the Twoback is not a sexual monster, it would be helpful if you offered an alternate explanation...

Oh come on, you're honestly telling me that the first time you shot and killed one of those nurses and they let out that surreal, borderline pornographic moan you weren't thinking that. Maybe it's a guy thing, I don't know. I'm just saying that's what I thought of at the time. Now, back to the Two-backs! Gosh, I wonder what the meaning behind them is.

Don't double post to quote yourself, please - actually, just don't double post. O_o There's no reason for it.

And no, I wasn't thinking that - because it didn't sound like a sexual moan. It sounded like a zombie.

>I wonder what the meaning behind this monster is.

Maybe you should read the thread? ETA: Ohhh, I get it. ;) Sly boots.

>Then why are you playing SH? It's developed and MEANT to scare you. It's a horror game. If it's not scary or even disgust you, then there's no reason to play it. Way to not get it.

I didn't tell your honeybee she wasn't allowed to play the game. I stated a personal opinion that "I THINK (emphasized to hopefully get the point across) people who react that way shouldn't play the games." Nowhere am I specifically saying, "You, Krista, you are not allowed to play these games. Return them and do something else with your time." I'm also not saying that people who get scared by the games shouldn't play them - I'm saying if you can't handle some of the easier and significantly lighter scares then I really wonder why you're playing the game.

Of course I get disgusted and grossed out by things. Of course I'm scared by them - I'm ready to admit that I was scared shitless in SH2 when you were chased down in the hospital, and I hated some parts of SH4 and still can't play them today. What you people don't seem to grasp, or you're getting really uppity about it, is my personal take on the "eww" remark which - really now, are you going to squat in a sandbox for that?

It wasn't a personal attack against ANY of you and it would be most lovely if that could be understood....

>All that I can gather from what Krist said is that she thinks people should keep a mature attitude when playing such a mature game...

Like this guy. He gets it (even if he went on to say he didn't :P).

i know some people play mainly for the storyline and all that good stuff, because they've already gone through the series enough to be desensitized to the content. when i first played SH3 a little over a year ago i couldn't glimpse a single monster without screaming like an idiot.

... now i don't really do that anymore; i can appreciate the things in the games besides the creepiness. which i still love, but you know, there's more than that.

Whether it’s about how to react to disturbing subject matter, or about how to interpret the forms of the creatures, it’s offensive to make prescriptions about how others are to enjoy Silent Hill.

Well, I am still offended. But thank you Rob.

Anyways, back to the blobbies. I guess it could be interpreted in many different ways. Krist said that the two bodies are like, fused together, but I still see a type of smaller creature on the back of a bigger one. If it wasn’t, how do you explain those stubby things hanging down that look like legs? What are those stinger like things, since everybody's so better at me than analyzing things
Still, to me it looks as if there's a smaller thingie riding the back of another person, which I first thought was Travis and his father. You know, kind of like those baby slings that the parents wear on their backs. There's nothing that explains any sexual activity. It definantly would explain more if they were facing eachother like what rob matter said. Whether it looks like that to any of you, I don't see it. Why would the be called Two-backs instead of Coupleinsexualintercourse? The name isn't even sexual. It's not as if two back are like, connected so the name is pretty weird. It doesn't explain much. It's not as obvious. Idk how you guys can really assume that they 100% represent that.

I'm still not getting the sexual-ness of these creatures. I just want like a really good logical explanation so that I can add it to my walkthrough. I don't think it's right to just say that 'these guys represent sex' if I don't believe it myself.

Oh, and I want to add. I know that after Lisa and Kaufmann were doing whatever, and you touch the mirror there's a two-back in there, but it still doesn't add to anything. Can I get some proof please. :D

Krist. watch this now!

You only have to watch the first two minutes until a nurse appears and is killed, making the moan that we've been arguing about for some time. If you still don't agree after this then...
Well, what can I say, I guess it's just my sick mind. Anyone else think the moans that the nurses make in SH1 sound sexual?
