Significance of a certain year (spoilers)

1961. It's an upside-down year: meaning that 1961 is still '1961' if you read it upside down. Numbers such as 1691 or 6009 is also an upside-down number. However, 1961 is the closest year that is an upside-down year to modern day. The next one, which is 6009 comes 4000 years later.

Annyyyway, after thinking about it a little more, I think they just picked 1961 because it looked pretty cool and fit their timeline. While I want to say it means nothing, I have to admit, 0rigins seemed to have more hidden messages in the puzzles than Homecoming...

On one hand, I think Climax used that year specifically because of its peculiar nature when it's reflected. You can try a little experiment as follows:

In Silent Hill 1, unreality had a cycle of sorts. In Origins, I think certain years allow the two worlds to sync i.e. the link between the mirror world and the real world becomes strongest. Helen is clearly supposed to be in the real world as she is being treated and diagnosed, yet she shows the strongest of symptoms of the mirror world taking over her, almost to the point of possessing her.
