Amusing cutscene glitch

Post by Akheon »

I've recently noted that by changing costume right before a cutscene activates, something interesting happens. There are two variations: 1, Travis retains free movement during the cutscene, and is free to go nuts on the environment. 2, Travis is absent, and after the scene he may appear at a strange location.

Here's a short vid of examples from the beginning of the game.
PRIME_BBCODE_SPOILER_SHOW PRIME_BBCODE_SPOILER:
Interestingly, the game doesn't know what to do after you've fallen long enough out of bounds with Alessa in your arms. At another OOB location the game successfully goes into the game over-screen... not here, the game never planned for you to croak here!
Too bad most cutscenes in this game begin right after entering a new room. These ones you can't manipulate. I'm at Theater on this playthrough, testing out all the possible scenes as I go. Many suffer from lag and cut out strangely. Hopefully this glitch turns out to be useful at some point as well... maybe you could skip that

or something? My hopes are on that.

I like how you see Travis and alessa running of and it's like "Hey come back!"

But seriously that is an awesome find! Do you know if it's just the ps2 version or does it work on the psp also?

Hey that's a great and funny find! I liked the punchs everytime. First Alessa, then Kauffman
Post more videos when you're done messing around with the system. ;)

Excellent find, Akheon, as always!

Have just tried on the PSP-doesn't seem to be working. I might just not be doing it right; has anyone else tried it?

I don't know about PSP. It might be useful to gain verification on this.

The trick's timing is not the easiest one around, but here's a sure-fire way to try it out: load a cleared save, so that a new game begins. Skip the first cutscene with Travis and his trucker friend chatting. Afterwards go to item-menu as soon as possible and simply change costume. At least on PS2 this always works and the cutscene with Travis and Alessa begins "glitched".

^Have tried this several times, and it either skips the cutscene or it goes ahead as normal. Ah well.

Shame if it doesn't work on PSP. You say it skips the scene? Pretty odd.

Begun making the third part of the series. Encountered a surprising amount of game crashes. Finally finished theater, slowly moving on to the motel.

P.S. the "explorer" costume Travis has makes me think he has joined the Super Adventure club.

^Fortunately, the only child here is Alessa and you don't want to mess with her.

This game has some pretty amusing glitches, I'll say.

A slight drawback: I've noticed that time still runs while in the menu. Most of the uses for the break-out glitch so far will not help a speedrunner... on the contrary.

Here's the third part of cutscene break-out expeditions.

And here and here related glitch items of interest.

SH:O is undoubtetly the glitchiest Silent Hill so far...

Odd indeed. I usually don't try to mess around to find glitches and things of that sort. Some can be funny but most are just used in negative ways. :|

Like I said in the youtube comments this is hilarious and disappointing at the same time. It would be awesome to kill off the cast in the cutscenes right there. Great find.
