do you think they'll be more to it?

And that's why it's scaryI always thought winter looks beautiful w/all the snow. White is angelic, clean, heaven-like (regardless of how devastating it can be). Black signifies death to me. White, psychologically, does not make me think evil or hell or anything negative, or not as much as black does. So I don't think the whiteness would work for me.
I think the whole Silent, lonely icy world is a great idea. I'm glad Climax is back, I didn't like DH too much but they both made good games but overall Origins was a waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better game IMO.

When I first heard the news of this game I rejoiced since I thought Climax did a very fine game with Origins, but I played the original SH yesterday and it made me think. I always hated the combat, or should I say the creatures in SH1. The Air Screamers, monkey men and those hateful dogs made SH1 a painful experience when it came to exploring the town which in my opinion was the fun part of SH2. To simply run from your enemies like in this re-imagining would make the game even more frustrating than to fight them with whatever low resources you might have. I would love to be proved wrong but for the time being I don't have much faith in this game.
I realized that it would make much more sense if I posted this in the "Fight or Flight"-thread. Bare with me, I'm just a newbie after all.

I think the monsters were needed in SH1 just b/c they were manifestations of Alessa's. But fighting is certainly not why I like SH. I, like you, like the exploration, the contemplation of WTF is going on, puzzle solving, etc.. Not having to fight is fine with me but the more I think about it, and after I read the Nintendo article, it (the hiding) really sounds more and more like Haunting Ground; if enemies follow you and hunt you down and go through doors, how the f*** are you supposed to stand still and view where you are, what you have to do, find items, look at puzzles, etc...basically PLAY the game? I hope there is an obvious way to handle the creatures b/c if they're literally always on you, you can't do anything but run, a la HG.Raketbosse wrote:When I first heard the news of this game I rejoiced since I thought Climax did a very fine game with Origins, but I played the original SH yesterday and it made me think. Ha the thought of the monsters ALWAYS chasing you and giving you no time to investigate is crazy! Most likely there will be sections with monsters, which will be the "chase scenes," that require you to get from point A to point B. At point B the monsters will likely quit giving chase, giving you some downtime to explore, solve puzzles, encounter other characters, etc. At least one should hope, otherwise this would be an utterly broken game. But that won't happen. It's being developed with the nonexistence of combat in mind, and I'm confident there should be nothing to worry about. Unless you all actually like shooting hundreds of monsters three times, followed by stomping them to death, which I've grown quite tired of in this series.
Ah, the barricade system! This was the one thing I was most excited about for origins, but then it was taken out of the game and being placed in this one. That's a good point you have there though, I completely forgot about that. Makes more sense then the monsters just running off when you enter a new building. Far more interesting to me than just beating them all to death so you can investigate in peace.Krysta wrote:You can always barricade yourself in a room, to do some investigations in peace

I think so too... though I've never played the original and would like the fire based otherworld.stopped_clock wrote: Also, I get the impression that the otherworld is going to be icy no matter what your psych profile comes out like. From what they said in the interview I think it could well be a major plot point (some previous trauma in Harry's life perhaps)
Spyro the Dragon comes to mind -- which only helps to emphasize how truly horrible choosing would be.jthomp1286 wrote:Yeah, however I'm sure the player doesn't get to select "Fiery Otherworld" or "Icy Otherworld" though. That would be ridiculous.
When I imagine "ice" in Silent Hill, the meat freezer with Eddie from SH2 comes to mind for some reason. So maybe the areas will be cold as ice, with mist forming from surfaces... Maybe not.
I want dark, misty, water dripping from things (and nice sound effects to go with that)... It could happen!
