Did anyone notice the little stabs they did at RE4, RE:UC, and RE5? I loved it all. Im also a big RE fan and think those 3 games sucked. When im talking about stabs i mean on the articles the devs would say "This is not a rail shooter, this is focused on horror, unlike RE4 (etc.)"
i just found that kinda funny for me

Sorry, I first didn't get the impression that you were relating to an article about SH:SM.

I fail to see how RE 4 wasn't focused on horror. Maybe Climax played a different version.

Mayhaps Climax is getting a bit big for its britches. Something they should reconsider, I think.

In my opinion RE4 really was not that scary. Plot sucked and it was focused way to much on combat.

As most people would agree, RE4 was the big turning point in the RE series when they decided to stop focusing on surviving a zombie infestation and instead focus on blowing the limbs off hostile foreigners with angry parasites living in their heads.

Now, the IDEA of hostile foreigners with angry parasites living in their heads may seem like a concept that could be used as the center of a horror, but RE4 left you well enough equipped to pretty easily bring any beastie to its knees. I don't see how I'm expected to be afraid of something when I can shoot its head off from 100 meters away.

I agree. Though I found that game extremely hard. Hard and not scary. I stopped about 30 min into it (30 min I played over and over to try to progress, to no avail) and sold the damn thing. Please don't flame me. My opinoin...

It's a shame b/c it looked really nice. :( So did 5. Hope they'll come back to the old 'formula' at some point and make it less actiony and more scary. We have enough action titles as it is.

Maybe it's because I was never especially fond of the previous games, but RE4 is easily my favorite Resident Evil, and possibly favorite shooter in general. The previous games certainly had a stronger horror aspect to them, but I always looked as zombies to be a kind of "cheap scare." It's fun to get chased around by them, but much more satisfying to blow their legs off with a shotgun.

The problem I see with the series after RE5, is that they're not really doing anything to take it a step further. All they did with the new game was take the basic set-up of RE4, paste a few new features on, add co-op (which can be a nightmare with the poor AI), and pretty it up with HD graphics. There also seemed to be shameless fan service of all kinds lurking behind every corner of the game, worst of all being that the camera couldn't get enough of Sheva's ass.

Sorry, I can't help but feel I got off-topic.

Lol! I like RE 1-3, REmake, Code Veronica...basically all except 4 and 5.
Sorry I am adding to the off-topicness.
But SH is by far scarier. Not even close to as many "boo" scares as RE relies on.

I agree that Silent Hill is much scarier, yes. But Climax shouldn't really make stabs before actually coming out with a good game. It's also not generally a good idea for a small, relatively insignificant developer to make stabs at an established company that destroys the small company in terms of overall quality. It just makes Climax look pretty stupid, in my opinion.

RE5 is much more of a RE game plot wise. It's like taking RE4's gameplay and throwing it into a classic RE storyline. Still REmake is still my favirote RE.

What exactly did Climax say about the new Resident Evil games again? I can't remember what it was now.

something about the games not being frightening because of the way they empower the player...
